PACE Trek Update

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Our students are amazing! In the first 2 days we logged 99 miles. They have to run/walk laps of the gym. This is done either as a class (for grades K-2) or small groups, pairs or individually for grades 3-8.

Every time they run a lap they get a small strip of paper to keep count. They need to do 25 laps to get a footprint (this represents a mile) which they write their name on and it gets put up on the gym wall.

GO FBCS, I’m proud of each and every one of you. Thanks to the P4 classes for helping out too!

Books Fall Open, We Fall In!

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The annual FBCS Reading Week was a huge success. The week-long activities helped to highlight an ongoing focus on literacy throughout the school. Reading came alive with a school-wide reading relay and a library scavenger hunt. The older students wrote stories to read to their younger ‘reading buddies’.

The students particularly enjoyed ‘Arrest a Teacher’ day, where members of staff shared their favorite books with the students. The end of the week excitement was in seeing the various costumes for ‘Dress as a Book Character’ day.  A huge thank you to the students, parents and teachers for their enthusiastic participation.

Middle School Dart Park Retreat

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Students in Grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 went on a “Team Building Day” to Dart Park South Sound on Thursday, February 5, 2009.   The goals of the day were to build friendships, give students leadership opportunities, and have fun.

The day started off with a devotional on love, and activities to get to know one another.  Students were then divided into four multi-age teams, and worked on different activities with their groups.  After the sessions, students were able to play some large group games, and explore the park.

At mid-morning we ordered pizza and drinks, and enjoyed a time of refreshment together!  Those kids can really devour a pizza quickly! Luckily the teachers were able to have a slice or two as well, and keep up their energy! During the last half hour of the morning, students enjoyed a game of camouflage, and hide and seek. We were so excited to see the students getting to know each other, taking leadership roles, and having a lot of fun!

Theme verse:  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself!”
