STEM Science Fair 2016 Here We Come!

The students have been hard at work since the first term learning all kinds of cool things about this wonderful planet we live on.

The STEM Science Club led by 3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Marsha Seerattan, has become the place to be once a week especially now that we have our very own Science Lab and the students are taking full advantage of the scientific concepts they’ve been learning.

Check out the quick video below which showcases just a taste of what our kids have been up to…

First Baptist Christian School Open House 2016

So perhaps your child is nearing that age where they’ll soon be transitioning from preschool to “big school” and you find yourself wondering what characteristics to look for in a good school.

Or maybe your child is already in elementary (or primary) school and you have no idea whether or not they’re at the level they should be for their age and, just as importantly, maybe you’re curious about what the following school year will have in store.

These simple questions can quickly become quite overwhelming when you consider the (literally) life-altering consequences one wrong choice can make in your child’s life. So how on earth do you arm yourself with enough of the RIGHT information to make an informed decision about choosing the best school for your child.

The answer is, of course, research. You need to ask teachers and principals the questions that will help you make sense of all the modern teaching resources and techniques currently available, whether there are being utilised by the school in question and, of course, the kinds of results they’ve been yielding.

Thankfully instead of having to schedule multiple appointments with the various teachers and trying to squeeze it all into a reasonable time frame, you know like less than a year, we’ve made it easy for you to do it all in an hour or so.

All parents are invited to attend this year’s FBCS Open House on February 1, 2016 at 5:30pm in the school gym.

Teachers from all grades (K-6) will be on hand to answer questions and give you an insightful and comprehensive look into the way we approach educating your child and the research to help clarify why we’ve chosen the particular approach we use.

This annual event is easily the best way to come see for yourself what a Christ-centred education really looks like.

Congrats Grade 3 Was Classroom Of The Month

In case you hadn’t heard, First Baptist Christian School’s very own Grade 3 (led by Mrs. Marsha Seerattan) were nominated for classroom of the month, an initiative sponsored by Cayman First Insurance Co., and won!

We’re really proud of the hard work being done by students and teachers and especially of the way God is being glorified through this ministry. We also want to take a moment to say a special “thank you” to all the parents and the hard work they do behind the scenes, partnering with us as we endeavour to shape these young minds into the great thinkers and innovators of tomorrow.

We’re really excited to see what the future brings 🙂

Now you have a chance to do it all over again. This year’s event is even bigger and better than before. More prizes, more runners and more awesomeness overall 🙂

In case you’re one of the 3 people here in the Cayman Islands that have never even heard of the South Sound Stride, here’s a quick video showing some of the highlights of last year’s run.

FBCS Reading Week 2015 In The News

DSC_0019So the FBCS Reading Week 2015 was a roaring success last week and both the kids, parents and even staff members had an absolute ball with the daily activities.

On Monday there were stars everywhere… well at least on people’s shirts 😉

On Tuesday the bright coloured shirts, shoes and pants could probably be seen from as far away as the Moon.

Wednesday was particularly heart warming as students and teachers displayed their favourite Bible verses by pinning them to their shirts. The obvious highlight for many being the last segment of Chapel where teachers stood and explained why the particular verse they were wearing was their favourite.

On Thursday the students (and teachers) were treated to a live reading from a local author who also happens to be a parent in both FBCS and WEE Care. Mrs. Elke O’Donnell captivated the audience with a story from the Sugar Creek Gang series.

Friday was all about C.S. Lewis, the famed Christian author of the Narnia series and if you missed it, boy did you miss an absolutely incredible display of costume talents. The characters from the book came alive as both students and teachers pulled out all the stops and turned First Baptist Christian School into Narnia itself.

All in all it was a great week that will likely be remembered for years to come. Many, including our Principal, Dr. Cross, said it was the best Reading Week yet. It looks like the bar has been raised pretty high and I for one can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year.
