Social Studies Projet.     Cayman Plants and Trees.

Grade 1     Due: April 16, 2012. (After Easter Break)

First grade has been learning about many different plants and trees found in Cayman. We have been learning what plants are good for food, which ones are medicinal and which ones are harmful.

Our project now, is to build a diorama using plants, leaves, barks, seeds (anything found on a tree that is found in the Cayman Islands). This will be due on April 16, 2012. This project will be marked out of 20 (10 points for creativity and 10 for content). The word diorama refers to a three-dimensional model. One of the great things about a diorama is the variety of ways to display it. The Display is part of the fun and appeal of a diorama. Here are some Ideas for making your diorama display unique:

Ideas on the Subject of your diorama:

  • A person or character
  • A building (house or yard)
  • An underwater scene
  • A jungle scene
  • A cave
  • A tree house scene
  • A scene of a room in your house
  • Your favorite animal in its natural habitat (ie. Fish, bears, iguanas, monkeys and so forth)
  • An island

Remember; do not feel limited to this list of idea. Get creative and have fun!

Social Studies Project

My Community

Dear Parents,

First grade has been learning about the community. Our project is to build a diorama showcasing a community. This will be due on Friday October 7, 2011. Remember, in a community, you find buildings, plants, animals and people.

This project will be marked out of 30. Points will be given for content (5), creativity (5), overall neatness (5), aesthetics /finished (5) and presentation (10).

The word diorama refers to a small three-dimensional model of a real-life scene that has life- like details and realistic background. It is anything YOU want it to be. One of the great things about a diorama is the variety of ways to display it. The display is part of the fun and appeal of a diorama. Get creative and have fun! I can’t wait to see what your child will come up with.

Animal Project

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Dear Parents,

First grade is learning all about animals and the five animal groups: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Our next class project will require each student to create one (1) animal from a group that will be assigned during class, and tell me all about it.  The animal should be placed in a model of its natural surrounding/habitat (where it lives or can be naturally found).  The student should tell me all about the animal, including the group that it’s in, the food that it eats, where it lives, and any interesting facts that he/she wants to share with the class.

The project will be due on November 15th, 2010, at which time the student will present it to the class.  Each child should therefore be prepared to talk about the animal and answer questions about it.  Students are encouraged to be as creative as they want and have fun.  I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Sincerely,

Ms. Suckoo
