Objectives and Homework for February 23 – 27, 2015

English: – Lesson 5 Check-Up on Monday

– Identify pronouns in sentences.

– Identify subject pronouns in sentences.

Number the Stars:  We’ve finished Number the Stars. It. Was. Amazing! Ask you kids all about it! For the next couple of weeks, we will now focus on creating an in-class book report. Students will be placed into groups and will be given a few tasks to work on. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Some of the learning objectives (or WALT as we refer to them in Grade 4; We Are Learning To) that we will cover while reading are:

    • Describe the characters’ traits, feelings, and motivations in Number the Stars.
    • Refer to the text for evidence to support answers.
    • Form an opinion about a character’s trait based on the character’s actions, feelings and motivation.
    • Explain how the characters’ actions contribute to the sequence of events.
    • Engage in discussions sharing their ideas and listening to others.
    • Use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words or phrases in Number the Stars.
    • Distinguish literal and non-literal language and determine its meaning.
    • Gain information about the past.
    • Build upon their background knowledge of World War II.
    • Explore themes of friendship and bravery during the times that scare us the most.

Spelling: – Study for our Spelling Test this Friday. (Words will be commonly misspelled words for Grade 4.)

Math: – Chapter Test on Monday

– Multiply a whole number by a multiple of 10.

– Estimate products by rounding.

Science: – Chapter 8 Review and Test Preparation.

– Chapter 8 Test on Thursday.

Social Studies: – Discover our Central  American neighbors.

Bible: – Study Bible verse for Friday. Parents, please encourage your child to study their Bible verse every week. These do impact their Bible grades.

– Review the Tower of Babel

– Create scenes that reflect Peter’s denial of Jesus.

– Review the meaning of repent, forgive and restore.
