Letter to the Parents – 14/10/2016

Dear Parents,

Happy Friday !
Here is what we have been doing in class this week –
We have read Chapters 6 – 10 of our novel ‘Pax’. The students have competed reading response pages – that include ‘juicy’ words, a summary and important quotes from the novel.  They are also commenting on what they have read at jnyyssonen.edublogs.org
In grammar they have studied how to write good sentences and how to avoid run-on sentences.
In Social Studies they have completed the first unit on ‘Coming to the New World’ with an open book test. For the next few weeks we will spend one Social Studies lesson a week continuing on with our Cayman curriculum and one lesson a week studying Spain.
If you would like to ask your child questions over the weekend, here are a couple –

1. The name Pax means peace – why does the author choose this name for one of her main characters ?
2. How can you combine two sentences into a compound sentence ?
3. What makes a hero ? Why is Joseph a hero ?
The Biography project is due next Wednesday – 19th October.
Teacher / Parent conferences will be after mid term – on Tuesday 1st November in the gym between 5 and 7pm. I will be in touch with further reminders.
Have a great weekend !
