Complete a one page word document Persuasive article on the following –

Writing Prompt – Think of something people your age do that you disapprove of, disagree with or dislike. Write a persuasive essay to convince these people to change their behavior.

Use this structure –

Introduction  – include your goal

3 paragraphs – each with a reason and example

Conclusion – what do you hope people will stop doing.

Social Studies Mini Project

Students are to complete a one page information sheet about their chosen endangered species.

This should include –

a picture / photograph

facts about the animal

description of its habitat and where it can be found

how we can help this endangered species

This is due Monday 2oth January and will be presented to their class on the 20th or the 21st January.

Biography of a Remarkable Person

Grade 5 students are completing a ‘Biography of a Remarkable Person’ to present in class on Friday 11th October.

Students are to choose someone that inspires them .. an explorer,scientist, author, athlete, musician etc.. and write a report – using our class expository rubric .. about their life. They will have some lesson time to work on the writing and proofreading.

They will then create a diorama at home to reflect this persons’ life and present in class on October 11th.

Global Read Aloud 2019

Grade 5 were excited to begin our Global Read Aloud novel today .. The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatraman

This book is a moving story of survival set within the streets of Chennai, India. The four heroic characters are well written and keep the reader engaged.

Weekly Update 14/6

Dear Grade 5 ,

Happy Friday! And a special Father’s Day blessing to all the dads.

Today is Summer’s last day .. we are really going to miss her and wish her and the family all the best for the future.

Upcoming dates –

June 18 Summer Concert at 6:30 pm. Students will be meeting in their classrooms and are to wear jeans and a white top. Ms Kathy has emailed with details of what to bring for our fellowship afterwards.

June 25 Award Ceremony 6:30 p.m.  A certificate of completion will be given to every child. Awards will also be given for Honour Roll, Technology, Music, Physical Education, and Citizenship.

June 27 Class party – students will sign up for what they want to bring in and we will have games and electronics allowed on this day.

June 28 Last day of School.  Dismissal is at 11:45.

Reading Challenge: I am so proud of the Grade 5 students who have been reading 40 books this year – and those that have completed A/R points and have raised their reading scores.

A/R is a wonderful programme and we are so thankful for Ms Sandra and all she does to help promote this.  

Thank you to all who have turned in their book reports –wonderful job – students will be given an opportunity today to present these in class.

Weekly Letter – 4/5/2019

We are very proud of our athletes and are sending a big cheer for today and tomorrow !

Monday 8th April is the last day for any Tourism Case Study projects not already turned in.

Tuesday 9th April will be our Unit 5 and Cumulative Grammar test.

We will also be completing some Terra Nova practice work next week.
