Here is an update on what each class is studying in music this month!
K-2nd grade classes have been learning the musical “Swamped”.   Mrs. Durksen has been practicing all the music and script with students since February, and Mrs. Bain will direct the final performance this year.

K- In addition to this Kindergarten Music classes are doing large motor movement with scarves; making rhythm patterns; and we read the story “There was a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello” and learned about string instruments.

1- In Grade one we have been learning about the types of notes like whole note, half note, quarter note, quarter rest, and a pair of eighth notes and how many beats they each get.   We are also learning the musical “Swamped”.

2- In Grade two we have been working on the instruments in the orchestra, and learning “Swamped”

3- 4- In Grade 3 & 4 music we started a unit on Music Around the World.  We have studied some of the music of Japan, and Africa.   We are also learning some choral pieces for the end of the year concert.

5- Grade 5 – Beginning band students are working on Essential Elements 2000 Songs 42-58.

6- Grade 6- Band students are working on Essential Elements 2000 Songs 97-128.
