Our Philosphy

Learn~Serve~Lead~with Christ

Our philosophy is driven by six biblical principles that form our educational philosophy at FBCS:

Glorify God

We love, care for, and educate children with excellence because that honors God who created us. “Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart , as working for the Lord. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23, 24)

Teach Scriptures

We commit to teaching our children the scriptures as a foundation for all other learning and to see the world through a Christian world-view lens.

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of , because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:14-16)

Assist Parents

Parents are God’s gift, for the blessing and care of children. Our role as an educational ministry is to assist parents in the education, and nurturing of children.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:1-4)

Shepherd with Grace

We aim to shepherd a child’s heart as well as their minds.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”(Ephesians 4:31-5:2)

Live With Virtue

We endeavor to provide academic excellence as well as teach and model good character.

“Be very careful , then , how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil .” (Ephesians 5:15-16a)

Pray Always

We believe in the power of faithful prayer, and without it our mission is impossible.  We commit to pray regularly and earnestly for your children and your family.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matt hew 7:7)

Educational Strategies & Philosophy

We believe that the role of each staff member is to help children reach their God-given potential.

Student-centered teaching strategies are used to give students opportunities to take charge of their own learning, work collaboratively, and to explore technology.   Teachers use differentiated instruction with ability groupings of students to meet a range of diverse needs and abilities.  Our Response to Intervention (RTI) team, work with groups of students who are working below or above grade level to help them fill the gaps, or extend their education and become successful learners.  

Instruction - Students in Kinder to grade 5 are given 90 minutes per day of literacy instruction, and 60 minutes per day of numeracy instruction. Specialist subject schedules in technology, Spanish, music and Physical Education are woven around this core schedule time.  Middle-school students are on 60 minute learning blocks and follow a rotational time-table.  Subjects include:  Math, Science, STEM Engineering, English, Music, Art, P.E., Spanish, and Life Skills.    Students in Grades 3-8 have 1:1 devices and use a range of learning platforms, and Microsoft Office products.  

A framework for 21st Century Learning is used to blend student learning outcomes, with the skills needed to be successful in the 21st Century such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.

Assessment Strategies

We are a data-driven school and use assessment for learning as a key to planning instruction.   A range of formative and summative assessments are used to determine a student’s level of instruction.   The results are used to evaluate student progress as well as to provide grade level feedback toward validated instructional objectives.  Our students take the MAP Assessments, STAR Assessments (Renaissance Learning), and Iowa Assessments at Grades 4-8.  Our full assessment practices include a balance of formative & summative assessments, feedback on student performance, technology enhanced assessments, mastery of 21st century skills, portfolios, & standardized testing.
