FBCS Science Fair 2018

WHERE: In the gym
WHEN: 12:30PM TO 2:40PM
WHO: All FBCS family are invited

It is always a pleasure to see our students become engaged in their learning and science is one subject that provides many opportunities for this to happen. This year 2018 we will be hosting another Science Fair on March 23rd, 2018 in the gym.

The categories are:

  1. Robotics – this is not a show of robots but the use of robotics to show programming skills.
  2. Engineering flow- Students will display structures that they have built that allows and object to flow. Example, a marble run, a water flow, a roller coaster, a combination of machines that move an object from one place to the next or a Rube Goldberg simple machine. See some examples below.

  • Demonstration of science experiments or models that Famous Scientist or inventors are well known for. Example, Archimedes screw. The student/s should be able to explain the contribution of the scientist or inventor to society and give a brief description of how it works.
  • Scientific process/Science Fair experiments- these are experiments with clearly identifiable variables (independent, dependent and controlled) The best in this category will have the option of entering the Rotary Science Fair.
  • Science project displays done in class can be showcased at the Science Fair.
  • PARENT/CHILD CATEGORY: A parent and child can enter this by building a simple or complex Rube Goldberg machine. See the video  examples below:

Looking forward to your participation this year.

Enjoy.

STEM Science Fair 2016 Here We Come!

The students have been hard at work since the first term learning all kinds of cool things about this wonderful planet we live on.

The STEM Science Club led by 3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Marsha Seerattan, has become the place to be once a week especially now that we have our very own Science Lab and the students are taking full advantage of the scientific concepts they’ve been learning.

Check out the quick video below which showcases just a taste of what our kids have been up to…

First Baptist Christian School Open House 2016

So perhaps your child is nearing that age where they’ll soon be transitioning from preschool to “big school” and you find yourself wondering what characteristics to look for in a good school.

Or maybe your child is already in elementary (or primary) school and you have no idea whether or not they’re at the level they should be for their age and, just as importantly, maybe you’re curious about what the following school year will have in store.

These simple questions can quickly become quite overwhelming when you consider the (literally) life-altering consequences one wrong choice can make in your child’s life. So how on earth do you arm yourself with enough of the RIGHT information to make an informed decision about choosing the best school for your child.

The answer is, of course, research. You need to ask teachers and principals the questions that will help you make sense of all the modern teaching resources and techniques currently available, whether there are being utilised by the school in question and, of course, the kinds of results they’ve been yielding.

Thankfully instead of having to schedule multiple appointments with the various teachers and trying to squeeze it all into a reasonable time frame, you know like less than a year, we’ve made it easy for you to do it all in an hour or so.

All parents are invited to attend this year’s FBCS Open House on February 1, 2016 at 5:30pm in the school gym.

Teachers from all grades (K-6) will be on hand to answer questions and give you an insightful and comprehensive look into the way we approach educating your child and the research to help clarify why we’ve chosen the particular approach we use.

This annual event is easily the best way to come see for yourself what a Christ-centred education really looks like.

So What’s This Christmas Stuff All About Anyway?

So it’s been a while since I posted anything here and since one of my teachers just sent me a really cool video and I happen to have 5 minutes to spare I figured I’d share it with you.

As you’re probably well aware, it’s pretty easy to get all caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season and not even give a second thought to what it’s really all about.

I try to make all the articles I write here clear up any confusion on this subject but I really like how this video drives the point home in a way that we can all relate to.

Enjoy.

Quick & Easy Way To Learn Bible Verses

So I got an email today from a 9 year old girl named Ayu who has come up with a clever little method to learn Bible verses that she wants to share with Christian schools all over the world.

Now before you start thinking that you have the worst memory ever and this would never work for you, you might be interested to know that Ayu was given a 5% chance of survival at birth and was expected to have mental problems. So stop the excuse making right now!

Her method is simply brilliant and I wanted to share her sample video below.

Enjoy.
