Updates and Reminders!

Hello Parents,
Happy New Year! The children have settled in nicely and are ready for the challenges ahead. I just wanted to update you on what they will be covering this term and remind you of a few things before the midterm break in February.
Updates and Reminders
Bible Verses
Please remember to practice memorizing Bible Verses every week with your child.
Homework
Homework is sent home every Friday and should return every Wednesday of the following week. Please check your child’s blue folder for this information.
Field Trips
Information about upcoming field trips will be announced as early as the dates are confirmed.
Numeracy
This week, the children will be exploring “Patterns.” They will be learning to observe and identify basic patterns, extend a repeating pattern by at least two repetitions to the pattern. Create a repeating pattern and compare similarities and differences between patterns.
Science
In science this term, the students will be investigating and understanding that plants and animals have basic needs and life processes. The key ideas are as follows:
• Living things need food, water, air, and space to live.
• Plants and animals have life cycles
• Offsprings of plants and animals are similar but not identical to their parents or one another.
Bible
This term, the children will be learning about the following Bible Stories:
• Sampson
• Young Samuel Anoints Two Kings
• David and Goliath
• David and Johnathan
• King David and Mephibosheth
• Esther is Brave
Art
In art, the students will be exploring the topic “Parts of a book or Illustration.” In this unit of study, the children will be learning about and answering the following questions:
• What is an illustration?
• Where can illustrations be found?
• What do the illustrations show?
• How do illustrators choose what moments of a story to illustrate?
• How do words and illustration work?
Literacy
In Literacy this term, the students will be learning about the following:
• Verbs in the present tense
• Capitalization – first letter of the beginning of a sentence
• Punctuation
• Writing simple sentences on their own
• Sequence of Events
• Nouns of place, people, and pets.
Cooking
In cooking classes, the children will be learning with stories of how to:
• grow a potato in a bucket
• make a pizza
• make a shepherd’s pie
• make a fruit salad
