Numeracy
Objectives: Today, the students will be learning to tell the time by the hour using an analog clock.

Listening Time: Please watch the read-aloud story entitled “It’s About Time” by Stuart J. Murphy on the link below.

Ask the following questions:
• What is the title of the story? (It’s About Time by Stuart J. Murphy)
• At what time does the little boy’s day start? (7:00 am)
• At what time did the lights go out? (9:00pm)

Show student (s) the yellow analog clock. Ask them what it is and what it is used for. (analog clock, telling the time) Show them that the hands move in a ‘’clockwise’’ direction all the time. Talk about the long hand (minute hand), and the shorthand tells the hour (hour hand). Explain that as the minute hand moves the hour hand also moves at a slower rate. Further, explain to the student(s) that time is divided into seconds, minutes, and hours.

Practice with students showing the following times on the yellow analog clock.
5 o ‘clock 10 o’clock, 2 o’clock and 7 o’clock. For students who have grasped the concept, extent this activity to practice the skill.
