Numeracy
Topic: Measurement – Compare Height and Length
Objective: The student should be able to:
• Use direct comparison to compare the heights and lengths of objects.

Developing Vocabulary: New Vocabulary height, length shorter, taller, longer
Lesson Introduction:

Ask the following guided questions for revising previous lessons taught.
• What is height?
• Compare your height with the height of your dad, mom, brother, or sister.
• Who is taller? Who is shorter?
• What is an object in your house that is taller than you?
• How do you know this object is taller?
• What is an object in your bedroom that is shorter than you?
• How do you know this object is taller?
• What is an object in the house that is longer than your shoe?
• How do you know this object is longer?

Listening Time: Please watch the video link below for reinforcement purposes. This video provides students with information on how to measure and compare height and length.

Learning Activity: Gather a few objects from around the house, such as a crayon box, a book, a few toys, a pillow, a broom, a mop, a pencil, just to name a few.
Ask students to compare the objects using the words longer, shorter, and taller. At this point, students can use a measuring tool (e.g., a toothbrush) to assist them if they are struggling.

Repeat this activity with other objects to practice the skill.

Task: Oral Assessment: (Students should work independently on this activity.This activity will be used as an assessment)
Directions: Instruct students to complete the activity below and have them record their answers on a sheet of paper. PLEASE ASK STUDENTS TO WRITE THEIR NAMES AND THE DATE ON THE SHEETS.

Instruct students to do the following:
1. Draw a long pencil. Below it draw a short pencil. Color your pictures.
2. Draw a short carrot. Next to it, draw a long carrot. Color your pictures.
3. Draw a tall tree and a short tree. Which tree is shorter?. Circle it. Color your pictures.
4. Which is longer, a broom or a pencil? Draw the longer object.
5. Draw the taller object: a lunch box or a ladder?
6. Draw a long paintbrush and a short paintbrush. Mark an X on the object that is shorter and draw a circle around the object that is longer.

Bible Story: The Fiery Furnace
Focus: Resolve to Do Right
Objective: To know that God protects Daniel’s friends in the fiery furnace.
Listening Time.
Read Daniel 3:16 -18. Explain that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego knew that bowing down to the gold statue was wrong. Even when they knew they would be thrown into the fiery furnace, they did not change their minds. They made a firm decision to honor God and do what was right.

Please read the make-believe story. (see attachment via email)

Ask the following questions:
• What did Jack want Charley to do?
• What did Charlie do?
• What would you have done if you were Charlie?
• How is Charlie like Shadrech, Meshach and Abed-Nego?

Learning Activity: Complete the activity from the Bible textbook on page 63. Explain to the students that the pictures on the page show what they can do to demonstrate that they are determined to follow God’s ways. Discuss the value of prayer, learning God’s words, obeying parents by doing chores, and sharing with others.
Guide students in counting the pictures within each category and coloring the correct number of boxes on the graph.

• Fill in the blank to complete the sentences.
• Print his/her first and last names.
• Use capital letters and lowercase letters when necessary.
• Read sentences.

Children will complete page 36 in the (Journeys Reader’s Notebook). Parents, please read the instructions/words with your child.

and read the book until the end.
Children will write three (3) sentences from the story they have read on their own.
(Allow them to sound out the letters and put the sounds together)

Please take some time each day to work on the Science/Social Project entitled “End of Unit Science and Social Studies Project.’ This project is due on April 6, 2020. Please send a short video of this project presentation to Mrs. Dawson via email.
