Numeracy
Topic: Measurement
Objective: The student should be able to:
• compare two objects or events, using direct comparisons, according to one or more of the following attributes: length (longer, shorter), height (taller, shorter), weight (heavier, lighter), temperature (hotter, colder), volume (more, less), and time (longer, shorter).

Previous Knowledge: Before entering kindergarten, the student (s) will have measured using water, sand in a sandbox, or various manipulatives. Students have most likely had past real-world routines experiences with measurement. For example, they may have been weighed and measured for height and weight in the doctor’s office.

Listening Time: Watch the video of the read-aloud story entitled “How do you Measure Up” by Raye Lankford on the link below. (this video will give the student(s) an introduction of understanding why we measure. While the student(s) listens to the story, allow them to click on the words highlighted in red to learn the meanings of each highlighted word. Please let the student(s) answer all the questions that follow the story.
