Numeracy
Topic: Measurement – Compare Temperature
Objective: The student should be able to:
• Use direct comparison to compare the temperature of objects or the environment.

Developing Vocabulary: New Vocabulary temperature, colder, hotter.

Lesson Introduction:
Sit with students at their workstation.
Display the sheet with the words “hot and
“cold.” Read the words “hot” and “cold” and
ask students to share any observations they
can make about the illustrations. Record some of their comments on a piece of paper as the discussion proceeds.
As students discuss the two pictures, be sure to elicit the fact that the temperature is hot in the first picture and cold in the other, and that people use thermometers to measure the temperature.

Listening Activity: Watch the video link below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ef3a9nL_KI (this video explains temperature )

Task: Give each student a piece of drawing paper. Have them fold their paper in half and write “hot” at the top of one side and “cold” at the top of the other. Then ask them to draw a picture to illustrate both temperatures. You may want to brainstorm a few more ideas with the children before they begin. Here are some questions to elicit student thinking.
• What kinds of things do you do outdoors when it’s hot? When it’s cold?
• How do you dress for very hot weather?
• What do people do to stay cool outside when the temperature outside is hot?
• What do they do to stay warm when the temperature outside is cold?
• Can you think of places in the world where it’s very hot or very cold?
• What kind of animals live in very hot climates?

Bible Story: Easter
Focus: The Ascension
Objective: To know that Jesus is arrested, crucified, and raised from the dead before He ascends to
heaven.
Ask students if they have ever done anything for a difficult friend, but they did it because they cared about their friend. Relate this to how Jesus did something extremely difficult for each and every person because of His love for everyone. Explain that Jesus chose to go through dying on a cross so that people could trust in Him and would no longer be separated from God. Jesus, the son of God, made a way for sins to be forgiven, and that is something to be thankful for!

Listening Time: Please watch the video link below of the Bible story entitled “The Ascension.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcFw8pLBSIo

Ask the following questions to review:
• In today’s story, what made Jesus’ friends happy?
• Where did Jesus say he was going?
• What did he tell the disciples to do?
• Did Jesus die again to go to heaven?

Learning Activity: Complete the activity from the Bible textbook on page 116. Instruct students to look at the number below each line, find the box that contains that same number of Easter symbols, and read the letter associated with that number. Tell the students to write the letters that correspond to each number on the line. Students will decode an exciting message.
