Here are the I can statements:

  1. The learner should be able to identify a penny, nickel, dime and a quarter.
  2. The learner should be able to add money (using the above mentioned) up to the value of $2.

Looking Ahead: Weeks of February 20th and 27th

Hello Parents,

Happy 100th Day of School to you all. Big congrulations to all students who participated in today’s Numeracy Bee. We are so thankful to Ms. Snyman for organizing this great event!
Attached is the Weekly Bulletin PDF.
Also attached is the rubric that will be used to grade the Term 2 project and presentation! (This one is for Social Studies, but the Science will be similar.) First Term brought lovely posters and presentations on specific animals for Science and specific oceans/continents for Social Studies.
Second Term will bring Science projects on biomes and Social Studies projects on the Cayman Islands. You will receive more information closer to the due dates about what is expected from students outside of classtime! Please keep in mind that most work will be done during school as these projects are meant to assess student skill, mastery, and focus.

Thank you kindly for your patience with the slight changes in Library as Ms. Sandra is away for the month of February. Students are only able to borrow two books per week until her return!
Midterm Break begins on Tuesday, February 28th with a noon dismissal. School will resume on Monday, March 6th.

Looking Ahead: Week of February 13th

Hello Parents,

Lots of news for the week!

  1. Tuesday is Valentine’s Day. We will celebrate as a second grade by passing out all of the notes we’ve written as part of our week-long Kindness Challenge. If your student would like to bring in special cards, candies, or small toys to pass out for the holiday, please make sure they bring in enough for every student in their homeroom (10 total in 2A and 11 total in 2B)
  2. Friday is the 100th Day of School. Students will celebrate by coming prepared in two different ways:
    1. Students are encouraged to dress up like a 100 year old OR in a way that celebrates 100
    2. Students are encouraged to bring 100 of the same item in a bag
  3. Friday is also our Numeracy Bee. Just like the Spelling Bee, it will be held in the chapel at 12:30!

Here is the PDF for the Week’s Spelling/Bible Verse/Reminders: WEEKLY BULLETIN

Looking Ahead: Week of February 6th

Hello Parents!

February 6th is Open House here at FBCS. Please stop by in the evening starting around 5:30 to see more about the second grade curriculum and also about the other grades (especially as a preview for what your student will learn next year in 3rd grade!)

Speaking of curriculum, our Harcourt reading curriculum has the students reading a new story that is matched with vocabulary and spelling every week. Some of the students have reported back to me the amazing things that you as parents are doing to support their learning at home! Here is a great resource for our upcoming stories: http://www.primarygradesclasspage.com/Harcourt%202-2%20Banner%20Days.htm

Weekly Spelling and Updates (Verses for next 3 weeks on second page)

Looking Ahead: Week of January 24th (no school on Monday!)

Hello Parents! Happy Weekend to you and your family.

We have so many exciting events going on next week:

  • Monday is Heroes Day so we will have a nice long weekend and then meet up together again on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday will be the Bible Verse Awards Ceremony at the end of our 8:30 am chapel.
  • It will also be the Honor Roll Ceremony in the evening at 6:00 in the Chapel!
  • Friday is the Rollathon! Make sure you’ve filled out your student’s permission form and that you send a helmet with the roller skates/blades/skateboards/scooters/bikes!

Here is the Weekly Verse/Spelling/Updates PDF

We’re studying many interesting things as second term starts up:

  • Writing: Students have just finished a full Writer’s Workshop to publish their very own personal narrative. Copies will either stay in the classroom libraries for a while or come home immediately depending on each student’s preference. Students will write another personal narrative this week!
  • Reading: Students will read their second of three fantasy stories. Last week’s chaos in The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate The Wash has prepared their imaginations for the fun of How I Spent My Summer Vacation this week.
  • Vocab: captured, imagination, relax, manners, matado, plains, vacation
  • Spelling: oi/oy words
  • Social Studies: students have started on the biggest unit of the year: The Cayman Islands! They’ve created their own travel books, hand-made passport pages included! We’ll start with the five districts of Grand Cayman and then move on to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Students are encouraged to bring in photos or ticket stubs from activities around the island to add to their books. Also, students will need to know their address. Please either help your child memorize your address or help them write it on a piece of paper to bring in 🙂
  • Science: students are learning all about trees, leaves, and the life cycle of plants! Time lapse videos like this one  are sure to capture your child’s interest.

Kind Regards,

Ms. Maurice and Ms. Mittelman
