Grade Two Last Week and Upcoming

Apologies for the late post.

Literacy

In Grammar, students learned about verbs. We looked at verbs in the present tense. Students are learning that an action done by a person or a thing is classified as a verb. Students will continue learning about verbs this week, we will put together what has been taught so far. We will review subject, predicate and nouns; students will be reminded that a complete sentence consists of a subject (the naming part, which has the noun) and the predicate (the action part which has the verb). Phonics- Students are learning about base words and -ing and -ed endings.

For writing students continue to learn about opinion writing and how to write an opinion and add supporting details. In comprehension, we continue to explore the author’s purpose and identifying the main idea in a text.

Numeracy

In Numeracy students will continue to practice using money as we have our in-class shop going for the remainder of grade two. Students will continue carrying out exercises to become more familiar with the U.S dollar currency as that is what they will be tested on for the Terra Nova exam. We will continue practicing addition and subtraction of money. Students will carry out a short assessment on Tuesday on what we have done with money so far. On Wednesday we will move on to fractions (students homework sheet says Monday, that was my mistake.)

ScienceĀ

As students continue learning about Weather, this week students will carry out experiments to investigate how some weather phenomenons occur, such as: lightning, thunder storms and tornadoes.

Social Studies

We will explore the different accents of the Cayman Islands and the impact of other nationalities on the accents. We will continue to explore the districts and what is indigenous to each district.

Bible

Students will continue learning about Esther, we didn’t get through much of the story of Esther last week as we had several activities in the mornings. The readings scheduled for last week will be used this week.
