Letter to the Parents – 21/02/14

Dear Parents,

We have had a fun READING WEEK ! Grade 5 really enjoyed buddy reading, the author visits and dressing up as book characters. We completed some work on ‘Jonathan’s Locket’ by Lorraine Carey on Thursday and most of the students want to purchase this ebook for themselves. I was really pleased to see everybody dress as a character today, and we celebrated the week with a yummy ‘banana’s abut reading’ ice cream treat. THANK YOU PTF !
The Science Fair project is due on Monday.
Each student received a ‘Tuck Everlasting’ book report sheet this week, the project is due on 10th March.
On Monday we will be doing our Social Studies lesson on beaches at Smith Cove, please make sure you send the permission slip back to school. I am looking for one more driver to help transport the children at 1.20pm.
Please ask your child the following questions to reinforce our class time.
1. What was your favourite part of Reading Week ?
2.What did you learn from visiting authors  Ms. Lorraine Carey and Pastor Paul ?
3. What is natural vegetation ? What are some examples in Cayman ?
Thank you as always for your cooperation in the education of your child,
Have a great weekend !

Letter to Parents – 7/2/2014

Dear Parents,
Another interesting week in Grade 5 ! The students are progressing through ‘Tuck Everlasting’, and getting used to the new style of spelling test, that includes spelling and vocabulary every Friday. Some students still need to remember to study the meanings of the words as well as how they are spelled.
In numeracy the students completed a mid-chapter check for Algebraic Expressions.
All science lessons this week were dedicated to working on their projects in pairs, they will also have some class time next week for this.
Information will be sent home soon from the office about Reading Week ( 17 – 21st Feb.). We have partnered with Books and Books to create a Cayman / Caribbean reading list of books. If anyone wants to go purchase a book from this list, Books and Books will provide 15% discount.
We had a WONDERFUL time at the String Fever concert on Wednesday, what a talented group !
Please ask your child the following questions over the weekend to reinforce class time –
1. What did you complete this week for your Science project ? What do you still need to complete ?
2. What are the main themes of Tuck Everlasting so far ? Who is your favourite character and why ?
3. What is the answer to 7t  (if t equals 4 ) ?
Thank you as always for your continued cooperation in the education of your child,
Janine
