Energy Transfer Project

Dear Parents and Students,

This quarter there will be a science project on energy transfer. This project will show their understanding of how energy forms can be transformed into other energy forms. Through a 3D model, presentation, and write up they will explain that process, why it matters, and affects the objects.

Below is the rubric students were given in class, along with an informational sheet with examples of energy transfer.

Due date: Monday, 20th January

Expectations:

  1. Use the rubric
  2. Presentation – 3 to 5 minutes, explaining your model, what it does, why you chose it, and how it shows the process of energy transferring.
  3. Write up – a full page typed or handwriting explaining their model, what energy forms are being used and their process of transferring to another energy form. If not able to print, feel free to email me and I’ll print.
  4. This is not a ‘live’ model but a prototype.
  5. I would like models to stay within a foot wide and high, I understand some may be a bit larger, please try and stay small.

See attached for examples of energy transformations

Mini Wind Turbine – https://youtu.be/crmJI_mdRUo – again does NOT need to work like this but make a similar model and can write labels to explain the process. Another similar – https://youtu.be/JXYkjHKakGE

Students already seemed to have ideas and I can’t wait to see what they create! Good luck and get building! (:
