Weekly Objectives and Homework: November 25 – 29th

Hello! Thank you to those who were able to attend parent conferences, and students who braved it themselves! ;). We hope you all have a wonderful week and for those celebrating Thanksgiving, have a great evening celebrating togetherness, family, friends, and community.

Literacy

  • Reading – we will begin a new Storytown unit with a short story titled The Night of San Juan
  • Grammar – we will look at Main verbs, Helping Verbs and Linking Verbs
  • Writing – students will complete their fiction narrative writing

Numeracy

  • Students will review their skills in addition, subtraction, and multiplication and apply them to practical problems.
  • We will review how to multiply multiple digits; 2 by 1 digit, 3 digits by 1, 4 digits by 1, 2 digits by 2 digits. (column method)

Science

  • Students will learn to use their understanding of energy forms to compare and contrast how they are transformed and how they are converted.

Social Studies

  • Students will complete a Unit 2 Test  and work on Figuring distance in Maps

Weekly Homework and Objectives 18th – 22nd November

Hello! Short week ahead, but be sure to check out all that is going on. (: 

Literacy 

  • Reading – we have finished reading The Bridge Home so this week the students are working on their book report. They will get chance to write each of their rough parts in class, then will copy up at home. This book report is due on Friday 29thNovember.
  • Grammar – the class will work on direct objects
  • Writing – The students have begun studying narrative writing and are writing their own story.

Numeracy

  • We will be learning about our 4 steps process of problem solving. Understand what they are asking in a question, key words and numbers, and how we are to solve the problem. This week will focus on addition and subtraction.

Science

  • We will begin our new topic on Energy. We will learn about some basic definitions of energy, the different forms, how energy can be transformed, cause change and conserved.
  • Students will watch a video for homework and write a paragraph on what they learned and return on Monday.

Social Studies

  • Grade 5 will be looking at Population growth and will also complete a Political Map test.

Tuesday:

  • Science: Take composition book home to complete graphic organizer on energy. What causes change in your house? Students will fill out their graphic organizer with information, they need at least 10 items. 
  • Grammar: Page 38

Wednesday:

  • Numeracy: Mathletics (if they have 60% on an assignment or incomplete)
        • Some will receive a multiplication and division review packet for homework for the quarter.

We will be visiting the Mission House in Bodden Town. As students have been learning about Cayman Living in Social Studies, this will be a great way for them to understand the way of life and heritage of Cayman.

Weekly Objectives and Homework 12th – 15th November

Welcome back! Hope you all had a relaxing long weekend and had an opportunity to think about and thank those who have served or currently serving our country.

Literacy

Grammar – this week we will be finish writing with nouns and move on to verbs – starting with action verbs.

Writing – We will begin a new style of writing – narrative. This week will serve as an introduction to planning characters, setting and plot.

Reading – we will finish our novel The Bridge Home this week and begin collecting notes and responses towards a book report.  

Numeracy

  • Students will be completing pop quizzes to review multiplication, prime and composite and odd and even numbers.
  • Students will be reviewing multiplication and division as we begin a new topic for quarter 2, computation and estimation.

Science

  • Students will begin our new topic on energy. Where does energy come from? What are the forms energy takes?

Social Studies

  • In Social Studies we are exploring the People of the Cayman Islands and completing a class census with a graph.
  • We will also complete an assessment on Political Maps.

  • We look at the life of Achan and the consequences of sin. (5B)

Welcome back, hope you were able to rest after such an eventful Reading Week.  Thank you for participating with character dress up day, the library evening, and encouraging your children to read!

Writing – The class will be completing their second expository essay this week on their chosen animal.
