Dear Grade 5 Parents and Guardians,

As the year draws to a close we have some important test dates the students need to be aware of.

We have completed the Global Read Aloud novel and the students have a book report due tomorrow – they have been working in class on this.

Monday 3^rd December at 6.30pm in Chapel is our Christmas Concert – the choir are to wear jeans and a white, silver or gold top, dancers can wear black leggings and the cast will wear their costume.   

If you are missing any costume items please let me know. We will meet in the Music Suite at 6.15pm on Monday.    

Here are the upcoming test dates –

Wednesday 5^th Dec – Math test

Thursday 6^th Dec – Grammar test on nouns

Friday 7^th Dec – Science and Bible test.

Some other dates to remember –

Friday 7^th December – Dress Down for Meals on Wheels and Grade 5 assembly

Wednesday 12^th December – 5.30 – 6.30pm – books and hot chocolate – family reading night in the library

Thursday 13^th December – possible trip to the Pines

Friday 14^th December – Christmas party.

Grade 5 will be presenting the school assembly on Friday 7th December on the theme of Generosity.

For the end of term instead of giving each other gifts we will be visiting the Pines Retirement Home or the Bonaventure Home and blessing others with a gift.

Maths – Complete 2 pages on conversions (Due 22/11)

We drew this chart in our books – it will help them with their conversions.

In Literacy this week Grade  have continued on with Amal Unbound. Using quotes and descriptions to show comprehension. 

For writing we have started on the first draft of a Personal Narrative.

In spelling we have added on 5 extension words each week to challenge ourselves.

Questions for this week –

1. How is Amal feeling ?
2. How can you make the opening of a Personal Narrative interesting ?
3.  What does amorphous mean ?  

Monday 5 November

• Numeracy Bee selection test (Quizizz in class – Top 3 proceed)

Wednesday 7 November

• Maths Test – Basic algebraic expressions and word sums

Friday 9 November

• Numeracy Bee in the gym
• Bring project materials to school

Monday 12 November

• Build animal cell in class
• I will take a picture of it and mark it in class. It will then be consumed at the end of the day.

• Page 5.1 and 5.2 (Due Friday 2/11)

Science

• Get items required for animal cell project
• Print or make correct labels for your cell
• Materials need to be at school on Friday 9 November
• Please no nutty ingredients!
