Letter to the Parents – 26/11/2015

Dear Parents,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! I am so thankful for you and your support.
Please remember today is a half day – we close at noon.

Next week Tuesday is the Christmas Concert – we look forward to seeing you all, it should be a lovely evening of worship to the King ! The Grade 5 students need to wear green tops and dark bottoms ( jeans or similar ). Unless they are in the cast – then they should wear their costume. The concert starts at 6pm, please have your child come to the music suite at 5.45pm.

On the last day of school – 18th December – we will have a class Christmas party. I will do a sign up in class next week for what they would like to bring. On this day we also do a ‘secret’ book gift exchange – please don’t spend more than $10 on a book.
Give back this Christmas time – we will have a blue envelope in our classroom from ARK – if you are willing and able – please send in a gift certificate for Fosters, Kirks, Hurleys, Price Right or Cost-u-less. These envelopes go straight to families in need this Christmas time.
The Science ‘Paper’ Projects are due tomorrow – I am looking forward to seeing how the students did with this tricky project !
Have a wonderful day,
See you at the concert 🙂
Blessings.

Letter to the Parents – 13/11/2015

Dear Parents,

We have had fun, busy 4 day week in Grade 5 🙂
In literacy we have almost finished our Global Read Aloud novel and have been inspired by the setting to write our own stories. The students have been writing their own creative story – I would like them to finish their story over the weekend.
In numeracy we have almost completed the unit on Data and have been looking at line graphs and choosing the appropriate graphs. They will complete the Unit test on Thursday 19th November.
We started a new unit on Matter in Science. The students have a Science project to complete by the end of the month. They will be making their own paper and comparing the strengths of paper – they will be graded on how they can use the Scientific Method – so we will be reviewing this in class.
Don’t forget –
Scholastic order forms are due on Monday ( 16th Nov )
and
If you want to take a family Christmas picture PTF are running a fundraiser photo shoot tomorrow ( 14th Nov ) between 9am and 1.30pm.

Letter to the Parents – 6/11/2015

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday – have a wonderful long weekend !
In literacy this week we have continued with ‘Fish in a Tree’ and are examining the characters and how Ally – the main character is growing and developing throughout the novel.
We have also being getting to grips with prepositional phrases, here is a video you can watch with your child –
In numeracy we are continuing on with the chapter on Data – frequency graphs, double bar graphs and how to use scale and interval.
We have started a new chapter on the Properties of Matter in Science.
I have put a reading log in each child’s agenda, I would like them to start filling this in over the weekend – it is a way to encourage them to read every day. 20 minutes a day is a great goal !
Here are some questions you can ask your child to help reinforce our learning  –
1. How has Ally changed during the novel ?
2. Explain what the atoms look like within a solid, liquid and gas.
3. What are some prepositions ?
Thank you as always for your support !
