Here are some questions you can ask your child over the weekend to reinforce our classroom learning –
1. What does the word pried  mean and how would you use it in a sentence ?
2. How did you do on your Chapter 1 Math test and is there anything you would like Ms Nyyssonen to review with you ?
3. Tell me something about the nervous system.

Have a great weekend !

Reaction Times ….

In Science we did an experiment to start our study on body systems, which measured reaction times.

We investigated if our reaction times improved with practice … for most of us .. yes it did 🙂

Letter to the Parents – 18/9/2015

Dear Parents,

Happy Friday !
Grade 5 has been full of fun, hard work and fellowship this week 🙂
We have been able to ‘Celebrate Success’ a few times – as  half the class have moved up a level on their reward chart:)
In literacy we have studied an autobiography, used imperative and exclamatory sentences, written a poem and started an autobiographical paragraph.
In numeracy we have almost completed our unit on Place Value – the first Math unit test will be next Thursday. ( 24th Sept. )
Today the students will be bringing home a copy of their results from the first Star Math and Star Reading tests. This gives me a base grade level for your child for the start of Grade 5 and helps me to see where I would like them to be at the end of the year.Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
Please ask your child the following questions over the weekend to help reinforce our class learning –
1.   6.395 – tell me the place and value of the digit 5 (  answer = thousandths place , 0.005 )
2. What is an imperative sentence ?
