Homework and Objectives 17th – 21st February

Hello! Last week till Midterm Break, lots to do and finishing off with a field trip. (:

Pay close attention to what’s to come!

Literacy

Reading – in reading this week we will examine a short story and look at the text structure of cause and effect.

Grammar – students will study at interjections and quotations.

Writing – As we progress through the Persuasive writing unit students will gather ideas, plan and begin a draft.

Numeracy 

This week in numeracy, students will use their problem solving skills and fractions to add and subtract fractions in word problems. We will also learn a new method of how to multiply and simplify fractions.

Science 

This week students will be creating their own circuits to understand the process and understand how electricity flows through circuits. Students will also learn about the effects of static electricity. There will be a quiz on circuits this Friday. 

Social Studies

This week students will look at the main industries pf the past and present in Cayman.

In our map studies we will look at how grids work.

Bible

We will study the life of Samuel and how he lived a godly life, listening to God and following His will for his life.

Follow the instructions and make sure a title and objective is present in their composition books.

Create diagrams for: Parallel, Series, Open and Closed circuits

  • Title: Circuit Diagrams and date (NOT IN NO MANS LAND)
  • Objective: Drawing and labeling circuits
  • Label: Wire, Battery, Bulb, Switch (if needed)
  • Make sure it is neat and not squishing in diagrams to fit on one page, you can use more than one page!
  • Use colored pencils or crayons (no markers)
  • Use these pictures as references

  1. NCFA this week! we are scheduled for Thursday, located in our sanctuary at FBC. We hope you can join to listen and cheer them on! At the moment we don’t know our performance time but Ms. Janelle will be sending out an email with more information and as she knows more will pass along.

Weekly Objectives and Homework February 10th – 14th

Welcome back to another week, check out what we’re up to this week 

Literacy

Reading – This week we continue on with our Storytown reading unit and will study a modern folktale – ‘Stormalong’ and the focus skill will be text structure.

Grammar – Students will study Writing Sentences with Commas, More Uses for Commas and Sentence structure.

Writing – as we explore Persuasive writing this week , students will complete a ‘cold write’ – a pre assessment persuasive writing piece.

Numeracy

This week we will be reviewing our skills and methods in fractions, adding and subtracting like and unlike denominators. This will then help us as we solve word problems with fractions.

Science

This week in science we will focus on a specific form of energy, electricity. This will how electricity is used through circuits and the core areas of how circuits flow. I would encourage students to be taking text books home to review content and to be familiar with vocabulary. There will be a quiz on circuits next week, Wednesday!

Bible

This week we will complete our unit on Ruth and begin to study the life of Samuel – how he listens to God. 

Social Studies

After completing the Unit 3 test for the Environment , students will study each of the special purpose maps and review their purposes.

FIELD TRIP: Friday, 21st February 

We will hopefully be going to the Botanic Park for a guided tour of the Blue Iguana facility and to walk around the park. We will return to school for lunch. The cost should be about $9 and we will confirm after the bus has been confirmed. This will be a nice conclusion to our unit on the Natural Environment and a treat to complete this mid- term.

Weekly Homework and Objectives: February 3rd – 7th

Welcome to February!

After suck a crazy week we just had with all the adjustments, we are thankful for everyones willingness to be flexible and thankful to the Lord everyone was safe and no further damages or issues hit our beautiful island.

 A new quarter ahead of us, lets get started!

Literacy

Reading – in reading this week we will complete a Storytown unit centred around the theme of ‘Go with the Flow’.  We will examine a fiction and non-fiction piece and use the focus skill of compare and contrast.

Grammar – Students will examine correct sentences, Proper Nouns and Adjectives and Commas in a Series.

Writing – This quarter we will look at Persuasive writing – this week we will examine examples and review the structure of Persuasive writing.

Numeracy

This week we will finish our study of order of operations, using PEMDAS. Students will also have a test covering Order of Operations on Friday.

Science

  • This week students will complete an experiment on force using catapults. This was scheduled to complete last week but due to the earthquake and sports day it was postponed.
  • While we are completing this experiment in class, students will be have a science packet to finish as homework. The packet covers lessons 1-3 from Chapter 16 in their text books, on Electricity pages 105-111. They will need to take home a text book and I told them to read a section each night and then answer questions as they go to split up the time. This will done at home and due Tuesday, 11th.

Social Studies

  • This week we will complete our unit on the Cayman Environment – with a review of conservation laws, water sources and a unit test.
  • In Maps work students will look at Historical Maps and Population Maps.

Bible

This week we will have a test on Samson (5B) and the work we have covered as we studied his life. We will also begin to look at the life of Ruth and the way she showed faith though obedience.  5A will finish their study on Gideon this week.
