Letter to the Parents – 27/02/2015

Dear Parents,

We have had another fun and busy week. Today I really enjoyed seeing the Science projects and was happy to see every Grade 5 student dressed up for Cultural Awareness Day.
Next week is Reading Week. The students have each received a reading log and are starting a reading challenge this weekend, to go through to the end of Reading Week. The challenge is to read 150 pages !
Here are some things to remember for next week –
Monday – they can wear stars on their regular uniforms.
Tuesday –  they can wear brightly coloured tops with their regular uniform bottoms.
Wednesday – they can put a Bible memory verse on their uniforms.
Thursday – the students can dress down.
Friday – they can wear a costume from ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ – a character or an animal.
On Friday 6th March in the evening PTF are hosting a ‘Narnia Night’ / Parent’s Night Out. You can drop your child off at the sanctuary from 6.15pm until 8.30pm and they will watch ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. The cost is $10 and includes a slice of pizza and a drink.
Thank you as always for helping to make each event a success !

Letter to the Parents – 13/02/2015

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday and I hope you have a lovely Valentines weekend !
Grade 5 have worked hard this week.
In numeracy we are half way through Division. Most of the class are struggling with the concepts of two-digit division and using compatible numbers to estimate, so instead of moving on we will review this on Monday and Tuesday.
I have two websites on the blog – under the post ‘division practice’, so they can go over simple concepts.
In literacy we are enjoying ‘Tuck Everlasting’ and are starting creative writing.
The Science project is due on 27th February, I have met with each student and made sure they understand what they are to do.
Upcoming Dates –
2nd – 6th March – Reading Week
24th March – FBCS Festival of the Arts
27th March – Math Snap Fair.
Please ask your child the following questions over the weekend to reinforce class time –
1. How did you do on your spelling / vocabulary test ? Do you understand what all the words mean ?
2. How could you estimate 152 divided by 30 to make it easier to divide ?
3. What are our water resources in Cayman and how can we protect them ?
Next week we will be in school Monday and Tuesday and then off for mid-term break.
Thank you as always for your cooperation in the education of your child !
