Hello Parents,
Here is a look at what went on in Grade 3 for the week.
Maths: Draw and interpret horizontal and vertical bar graphs. Revision questions for assessment. Assessment on picto and bar graphs. Introduction to multiplication using block “manipulatives” to make links between groups and multiplication number sentences. The concept that multiplication is repeated addition and it is commutative was also introduced.
Literacy: Students are learning the elements of a story and how they can use it in their own writing. We were able to focus on characters, setting, plot and having a good beginning for the story. In Grammar we looked at adjectives used for comparison and how adverbs are used to describe how a verb behaves, and when and where an action takes place. In reading we focused on identifying story elements.
Science: We looked at what is a mixture and what is a solution. We also focused on some inquiry based and critical thinking skills on the topic of matter. We will be preparing for an assessment on properties of matter next week Wednesday.
Social Studies: students worked on a project in class to make a poster to show the water cycle. This took two session but they got it done.
