End of Year Assessments

This week children are sitting their End of Year Literacy Benchmark Assessment.  The booklet will be marked by Miss Hurst and will be sent home next week for children and parents to view.  The booklet most be signed by the child’s parent and brought back to class.  This booklet will remain in each child’s portfolio and will be used towards determining each child’s final literacy grade for this grade 3 year.Next week, children will sit the STAR Reading and Math test.Our end of unit Fraction test will be towards the end of next week.  Their Numeracy Profile Tracking Sheet will also be completed and up to date.

Homework 30 May – 3 June

Monday – Accelerated MathTuesday– Spelling, Lesson 30, Review.  Also spelling contract group to complete their worksheet and spellodrome activities.Wednesday – Handwriting.  Ensure all cursive handwriting pages have been complete up to p77.Thursday – Science. Define and then give examples of these ecosystems – desert, grassland, freshwater and forest.  Textbook p168-172

Spelling Contract Group – worksheetTuesday– Spelling, Lesson 29.  Spelling Contract Group – Spellodrome challengeWednesday – Grammar, Abbreviations, p88-89.  Also do Writing Application Journal on p89.  Written work to be done in their Writing composition book.Thursday – Math (Fractions and Problem Solving) Math Homework Book p100 – 103Up coming events– Next week, Grade 3 will be sitting the End of Year Benchmark Assessment.  This is a literacy test that addresses reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, grammar and writing.  The test will be conducted throughout the week during our normal Literacy time.  The test will be marked and sent home the following week for parents to view, sign and return to class.  This test booklet will be kept in each child’s portfolio.  This test  will also be used in helping to determine the Literacy grade for each child.

Upcoming Events

PTF International Dinner 20th of May.  Held in the school gym from 5:30pm.  Please ensure you have brought a plate of French dessert food for our French food booth.Book Week 23 – 27 of May.  A notice has gone home with children today outlining the daily events for this Book Week.  Please take time to read this.  Also note that children need to dress up as a favorite book character for our book character parade on Friday, 27th of May.

Homework 18 – 20 May

Wednesday – Spelling – Lesson 28, words with “ar” sounds.  Also Spelling contract work for the second spelling group.  The worksheet and Spellodrome Challenge activity need to be completed by Friday.  We will have our usual spelling test this FridayAlso for Wednesday…parents are to sign their Child’s Geometry Math test and have it returned by the following day. Thursday – Final preparation for PTF International dinner.  Somethings to do include reviewing Frere Jacques song for our concert item, ensuring a French recipe and food item has been chosen and will be made for tomorrow as well as bringing in any needed supplies for our display.  Please see the Child’s agenda or contact Miss Hurst for specific details.

Homework (9 – 13 May)

Monday – Accelerated Math activity.  See agenda for each child’s specific form number and activity to complete.Tuesday SpellingThere are two spelling groups.  One group will complete Spelling Workbook Lesson 27, more words with o, p156-161.  The other spelling group will complete these activities: Monday – Spelling Rules worksheet.  The 23 words that need to be spelled correctly on the practice pages will be the ones they are tested for Friday.  Children need to state the rule they used to correct the spelling mistakes. Tuesday – Free choice on Spellodrome activities (20min).  Parents are to sign in their child’s Agenda to witness the time spent on Spellodrome.  Wednesday – Complete a challenge activity on Spellodrome which has been set by the teacher.  Thursday – review words for the following days Spelling test.  This spelling group will follow the same routine each week, but will have different words/rules to focus on each week.WednesdayGrammar, Capitalizing other nouns.  Grammar Workbook p86 -87.Thursday (and weekend homework) – Social StudiesChildren are to research and choose a French food recipe.  We will then choose some of these recipes to either make in class or have designated parents to make at home and then bring in for the International PTF dinner.  Remember, the food should be a snack/finger food item which people could easily eat while moving about the stalls.
