Weekly Update – October 12, 2018

Literacy – Students made graphic aids to help with doing an Expository Writing (How-to writing). These they will be allowed to use during their next Literacy Assessment on Wednesday October 17, 2018.

We will continue to review sentences, (making run-on sentences into two sentences and making phrases into complete sentences)  and usage of correct end marks.

We will resume oral book summary and the usage of two new words to make sentences, after the mid-term break.

Reminder – We are taking a break from Spelling test, we will resume studying vocabulary words after the mid-term break.

Social Studies – The Social Studies test will be on Monday October 15, 2018. We reviewed the material in class, also please review with your children at home.

MATH:

Students learnt to identify, describe, create, and extend patterns found in objects, pictures, numbers and tables. We spent the week revising and learning how to read instructions and decide what is given and what is being asked.

Next week there will be a series of short tests from Monday to Wednesday that will assess patterning, more rounding and place value.

Students will be tested on the following skills:

  1. Knowing the place and value of digits in numbers.
  2. Writing numbers in expanded, standard and word form
  3. Rounding numbers the 10’s,100’s and 1000’s
  4. Identifying, creating and extending patterns (basic subtraction and addition skills needed)

Students can log onto mathgames.com and select games, then select the topics we have done which will then generate games in that skill to help with revision.

I am sending home the worksheets we used in class for extra revision if the student needs it, but we have done a lot of preparation during this week.

SCIENCE: students will be tested on the investigative process of science. Worksheets that we have done in class will be sent home for extra revision. I have done a lot in class revision to help the students be ready for the test, so please do not feel pressured that they have too much to revise for over the weekend. The test will be on Monday for 3A and Wednesday for 3B as that is when I have them for an hour each.
