Monday – Accelerated Math ActivityTuesday – Spelling Workbook.  Lesson 7, More Words with Long e. P42 – 47.Wednesday – Grammar.  Identifying and writing with nouns.  p22-23Thursday – Math Revision for Friday’s Statistics Test.  Chapter 12 Test Practice p554-555.

Weekly Update

Math – This is our final week of Statistics work.  Children will be sitting their Statistics test on Friday morning.  Extra revision homework will be sent out Thursday afternoon.Literacy – Children will be learning to write quickly and expressively.  They will be learning to read graphs for information.  There will also be a continued focus on developing listening comprehension skills.Science – Children will be learning the importance of water on our environment and the role of the Water Cycle.Bible – We will be learning how Jesus is the rock on which to build our lives.  We also continue to look at the 4th commandment, keeping the sabbath holy.  Our memory verse is Mark 2:27-28.

Homework 11 – 15 October

Monday – Accelerated Math ActivityTuesday – Spelling Homework Lesson 6 Review p38 – 40.  This week I would also like the children to complete Writer’s Workshop p41.  Their Writing books will be sent home on Tuesday so that they can complete the work in this book.  Alternatively, they might write this as a post on our Grade 3 Writers Blog.Wednesday – Grammar.  Identifying common and Proper Nouns.  Workbook p 19 -20Thursday – Reading.  Radical Readers and Word Sleuths to practice reading their parts in the play.  Book Worms will complete a reading activity from their book Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World.  See note in Agenda for specific details.

Weekly Update

MathStatistics.  Children will be introduced to the idea of probability.  We will use words like certain, impossible, likely and unlikely to describe a possible outcome.Literacy Reading.  Radical Readers and Word Munchers will be focusing on fluency and reading with expression as they work on a play to perform to the class.  Bookworms will be developing their ability to think critically when comprehending text.  Writing.  All Children should now be able to access our Grade 3 Writers Blog.  The focus is on writing creatively.Science Inquiry – children will be investigating the different properties of soil.  They will also learn how pollution can affect plants and animals.Bible – This week we focus on the third commandment, keeping the sabbath day holy.  Our memory verse is Exodus 20:8Monthly Manner focus – Each month Grade 3 will be focusing on developing certain manners.  In September we focused on using polite/kind words, specifically “thank you, please, excuse me and your welcome”.  This month we are focusing on table manners at lunchtime and snack time.  We are focusing on eating with our mouth closed, cleaning up after ourselves and talking kindly with each other at the table.  Grade 3 would love to have a shared lunch with our parents at the end of this month in order to display our good table manners and enjoy each others company.  The 21st October is being looked at for a possible date.  Invitations will be sent out shortly to confirm the time and date.

Weekly Update

Mathematics – This week we finish our focus on Place Value.  There will be a test from Chapter 1 of the textbook on Friday.  Extra revision homework will be sent home.  Note:  The test will not cover Problem Solving using the 4 step strategy as this strategy will be taught at a later date.Literacy – Children will complete writing a recipe for a dragon.  The focus is on sequencing events and using connectives.  Listening comprehension activities have started.  The focus is on recalling the main idea and drawing conclusions.  Guided reading work continues with a focus on fluency – reading with few errors and with expression.Science – Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on what it means to conserve resources.  This week children will learn some types of resources and how we get/make these resources.  We will also do a fun investigation to “mine” for raisins in an oatmeal cookie.Bible – Devotion focus is the Third Commandment.  Memory Verse is Psalm 103:1.  Bible Study focus is  learning what it means to be “fishers of men” and the gospel message.

Homework 4 – 8 October

Monday – Accelerated Math activity.Tuesday – Spelling, Lesson 5, days of the week and months.Wednesday – Grammar,  Correcting Run on Sentences, Grammar workbook p 15-16Thursday – activity based on work in their Guided Reading group.  For specific information pertaining to each student, see Agenda. Other homework:Children should be selecting and practising the reading of a picture book which they will share with the class on their designated day.Math Revision of Chapter 1 in preparation for our Math test on Friday.  Page 1 – 10 of the homework practice book should be completed.  Extra Math practice work may also come home in the form of the textbook and their Math composition book.
