Math and Science updates for the week of 25 November, 2019

Hello Parents,

We have been working on word problems and strategies for adding and subtracting numbers. A quiz was given on Tuesday to determine how well students can add or subtract using more than one method. It was a productive session as most kids can use the column method and about 80% can also use the place value method. They will be give a test this week to test their ability to solve addition and subtraction problems using more than one method.

We also looked at the properties of addition and they have been assigned activities on mathgames.com to practice this. A small quiz in class will be given on this by Thursday. See link for more on properties.

The CUBES method was used to help students with word problems. See link

In SCIENCE students started working on Science rotations where they got to experience and learn about adaptations. This will continue into next week. They will have a short test on the definitions of the types of adaptation. The students have these notes in their science note books as well as in their Science Fusion workbook.

The quiz will be a match the word/picture to the meaning type format.

HOMEWORK: a math worksheet with word problems was given and students were asked to do some of the given assignments on mathgames.com. The remaining assignments will be done in class. No science homework given.
