Math and Science updates for the week of 2 Dec. 2019

Hello Parents,

This week the kids did a number of formative assessments to inform us where their strengths and challenges lie. I had student-teacher conferences with them to reteach and point out  where mistakes were being made. These test papers were sent home in their blue folders. Please go over with them and have a look at the diagnostic comments I made.

Here is what  will be assessed in the coming weeks from 9-16 Dec.

Math

9 Dec. Mon: Math test on being able to add and subtract 3 digit and 4 digit numbers, using estimation to solve and using more than one method to solve difference and sum.

11 Dec. Wed: Solving simple equations using the inverse property of addition and subtraction (345 + ?  = 487) The working will be 487- 345= 142. OR  234- ? = 120 The solution will be 234-120 = 114. They will also be tested on identifying the different properties of addition(associative, commutative and identity) see link

Science: Students explored adaptations using Science rotations on adaptation activities. They will have two science tests and one project which will be done on the following days:

12 Dec. Thursday: Science definitions test on adaptations. A formative test was done in the week so that they can use this to prepare. It should be in their blue folders.

16 Dec. Mon:  Application test on adaptations

Project– Create an animal of your own with various adaptations that will help it survive. This will be done in class for the remainder of the month.
