Changes for Spelling Homework

Grade 3 students were given a new change for Spelling homework. Starting this week, spelling homework will consist of the workbook AND the Tic-Tac-Toe worksheet. Reminder: this is due Friday. Attached to the Tic-Tac-Toe worksheet is a page of examples for each box. 🙂

Homework 17/9-21/9

Monday: Spelling: Workbook p. 6-8 AND Tic-Tac-Toe (REMINDER: spelling homework is ALWAYS due Friday, unless otherwise noted)

Tuesday: Science: Workbook p 1-2 “Getting to know your book”

Wednesday: Math: Workbook p 16, 20, 21 Comparing numbers, rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand.

Thursday: Grammar: Workbook p 7-8 Commands and Exclamations

Monday – Spelling. Lesson 2, words with long a sound, p14 – 19.Tuesday – Math. Place value to 10,000, Math Homework book p3-4.Wednesday – Science. How living things grow and change. RS7-8. Use accompanying textbook p64-68 to help complete RS7-8.Thursday – Grammar. Using correct punctuation. Workbook Plus p5 – 8.Weekend homework – Complete tasks and activities on Mathletics and Spellodrome

Homework January 10 – 14

Math – Accelerated Math activity. Please note:  Extra math work may be given during the week in relation to our multiplication focus.  Please check you child’s agenda for any specific homework.  We will also have another basic fact test this Friday focusing on one, two and zero times tables.  Children will be aiming to cut their time in half from last weeks basic fact test.Tuesday – Spelling, words with long o, Lesson 14 p 82 – 87Wednesday – Grammar, Verbs in the past p 42 – 43.Thursday – Research for Inquiry project.  Children are to use the Internet to find answers to their questions about their chosen Inquiry topic.  Information is to be written down in their Inquiry book.   Friday will be the last in class day for research as next week children start working on their Power Point.

Homework 27 September – 1 October

Monday – Accelerated Math activity.  Children will have their worksheet in their Accelerated Math folder.Tuesday – Spelling, Lesson 4, words with long e, p26 – 31Wednesday – Grammar Workbook p15 – 16.  Correcting run-on sentences.Thursday – Science (Writing and Social Studies link).  How do landforms change quickly?  Children are to choose one activity from Making Connections on p311 of the Science Textbook.Extra homework– Writers Blog, Mathletics, Spellodrome, work on shared picture book presentation (see hand out in Child’s agenda)NEW!  Additional Extras!Part of the new Math curriculum that FBCS has purchased includes additional Homework Practice Workbooks for each child.  These books provide further activities for lessons taught in class.  At the moment we have been working on lessons from chapter 1 (using place value) and chapter 12 (organizing, displaying and interpreting data).  I know some of the children are all ready quickly completing the weekly homework and I believe are capable of completing this extra homework.  I suggest completing a few pages a week from the chapters we are focusing on.  The children can then bring the booklet in on Friday or Monday if they wish to complete it over the weekend.  At this stage, it is up to the child and the parents how they use this booklet as this is an additional extra to the homework, not compulsory.  I can make this compulsory if there is a general consenus that this new addition is manageable to complete alongside the all ready set homework.

Homework 20 – 24 September

Monday – Accelerated Math worksheet.  The focus is on place value but the objectives/activities are differintiated depending on the child’s needs.  Children are to complete the worksheet tonight as tomorrow we will input the answers using the Responders so they can get immediate feedback on how well they did.Tuesday – Spelling.  Short Vowel Sound e.  Lesson 3 p 20 – 25Wednesday – Grammar.  Identify the subject and predicate of a sentence.  Ensure all pages from 5 – 8 are completed.  Particular emphases on the Challenge pages.Thursday – What are Landforms?  RS 49 – 50 and accompanying textbook pages.Extra homework – Spellodrome, Mathletics and our Writing Blog.
