30th September – 4th October: Objectives and Homework

Literacy 

Reading:

  • In  Reading we will starting our Global Read Aloud novel ‘The Bridge Home’ by Padma Venkatraman, students will be exploring the setting.

    We will be connecting with a class in Winnipeg, Canada through a shared Padlet and a google hangout.

Writing:

  • In Writing students will be working on the structure of an expository  essay and will be have some class time to help with writing their ‘Biography of a Remarkable Person’.

Grammar:

  • In Grammar students will review run-on sentences

Numeracy:

  • Students will be reviewing their quiz and make corrections
  • Review concepts of place value
  • Students will take a quiz. Then take home and be signed by parents then returned the next day. This is an opportunity for parents to see how their child is doing at the beginning of the quarter.
  • We will continue with number sense and review equivalent decimals and fractions.

Science:

  • We will continue observations of students oreo models, descriptions on Earth’s layers and plate tectonics.
  • Students will also learn how the geospheres are connected and impact earth’s surface.

Social Studies:

  • This week in Social Studies we will look at slavery and emancipation

Bible:

  • We will continue to look at the life of Joseph and the theme of forgiveness.

Homework and Assessments 

Literacy:

  • Spelling pages 16-18
  • Grammar pg. 17 – TUESDAY
  • DRA Reading Assessment this week
  • Unit 1 test – THURSDAY

Numeracy:

  • Place Value review test – on Wednesday. Students will take home test on Thursday, must return Friday with a parent signature.
  • Mathletics: Place Value, Tuesday and Thursday 

Social Studies:

  • Assessment on how to use directions on a map

Science:

  • Quizizz on scientific method

Reminders and Events 

  1. Friday, 4th October: Dress Down and Fruity Friday! Grade 5 will be selling for FF. Please consider donating healthy snacks that can be sold for class fundraising. This money goes towards field trips, bus expenses, and special class events.
  2. Sunday, 6th is Education Sunday! It’s a great opportunity for students to perform, families to connect with the FBC family and join our potluck after service. Hope to see you there! Service is at 10:30am, Ms. Janelle will give students a specific time for arrival.
