Online learning for Math and Science

Hello Parents,

I will be following these guidelines to deliver Math and Science online and at home learning.

Platform for communicating: Grade 3 blog and emails

Platform for posting work, correcting and giving feedback: seesaw, Mathletics, mathgames.com, youtube

What will be communicated on a regular basis?

Parent/student friendly lesson plans

Assigned work and feedback

I want to keep this simple as possible and routinely as possible so a new normalcy can be established. I am working on being able to connect all the students at the same time so that we can have a live chat once a week.

Work will also be assigned in the workbooks and the students can take a picture of their responses and upload it in seesaw and post it to their journals for my viewing. This eliminates them having to get you to take the picture and emailing it to me. Of course, you can still do this if you wish and it works best for you.

See instructions for using the seesaw app here:

Using the seesaw app

This way of learning allows students to be more involved in their learning and to find different ways to show how they are learning. It also gives you a more hands on approach to monitor and support them.

It will also allow me to be more focused in designing instruction for all my learners in the class. One of the challenges that we will have to overcome is the way of assessment. If I have to give and end of unit assessment, I would expect that the parents not assist the child at that time so an accurate picture of what the child understands can be obtained.

I will use various methods to gather this data and not just the traditional quiz type responses.

I am starting to become excited about the possibilities that technology can afford us in helping students learn in new and fascinating ways.

Here is the lesson plan for Wednesday 18 March.

I am also attaching a video I made to explain the science concept.

Here is a picture of the math workbook and science workbook that I gave the kids to take home on Friday. This will help you know which books they should be using

.

The book below will be used to do assessments

The bible workbooks were not sent home. If you make a trip to George Town you can collect it from the classroom.  This is what it looks like.

Keep your eye on this space. Teach your kids to use the blog so they rely less on you.

Blessings,

Math and Science updates for the week of 2 March, 2020

Hello Parents,

We were able to do a lot of activities this week. We corrected homework involving decomposing of numbers to solve multiplication problems. We also reviewed dividing by remainders. Both these topics were retaught as students has some difficulty with it. If you did not get the video of a simple way to do long division, then please click on this link-

I would advise using this method for students who are still struggling with remembering their time tables. The traditional long division method that you and I did at school will be taught to them in Grade 4. That means that they must know their tables fluently by then.

The students were also allowed to show what they have learnt in multiplication and division by designing games. This will also be graded and used to help determine what level the student is functioning at.

The math HOMEWORK for this week that will be due next Friday 13 Mar. 2020 is as follows:

Ready Math pages 71-72,106-108,107, 130, 135, 136 and page 392 Questions 1 to 5 only.

In science we practice answering questions on forces and simple machines. This in preparation for two science tests next week. The students should have the worksheets which we did in class and they can use this for revision. Here are the links to the quiz we did in class.

The students also worked on building a model playground with at least four kinds of simple machines. This will be marked as part of their project Grade for Quarter 3. I will upload pics. as soon as they have completed it.

OTHER

Grade 3A will have a bible test on Tuesday 10 Mar. 2020. They have been given a revision sheet which we went through in class. Please remember to assist your child with learning their scripture verses as it makes up part of their Bible grade.
