Social Studies

The Apprentice Jr Project

Project Goal:

Student will conduct research on how resources can be used to give people money that they need to live.

Students will be able to present an idea for a small business and test out their product by putting it up for Sale.

Rationale:

Students are learning about resources (natural, capital, human) and how these resources can be turned into goods (things that can be bought) or services (jobs that can be performed).

As part of the research portion of the unit, students will apply what they have learnt about resources to start and run a small business.

Students can choose to (select only one):

Use resources to make a good/product.

Ideas for business:

-sell lemonade by the glass

-sell coconut water by the glass

-buy items in bulk and resell smaller items to neighbors and friends

– make crafts (i.e cards for Valentine’s Day, slime, etc)

– sell artwork

-sell baked goods

-sell produce from your garden

Perform a service for a fee. Chores that they already do can be counted if you so choose.

Ideas for service type business:

-Tutoring in a subject you are good at.

-Dog walking

-Light yard work ( ie rake leaves)

-Light house work

-put on a show
