Math and Science updates for the week of 3 February, 2020

Hello Parents,

I do apologize for not posting for the week of Jan 27. That week we had the earthquake and sports day and a holiday on Monday so the week was quite disruptive.

We settled this week and got some good work done. We continued with practice on multiplication and division and I discovered that a number of students have not been learning their timetables. Please parents, I need you to follow up on this.

This week we learnt multiplication with remainders and how to multiply double digit number with single digit numbers- (2x7x3 can be solves as 14 x 3). Division is still a challenge so we will work on it even when we move on to a new unit.

In science, we are learning about how the six simple machines make work easier. Stations were set up and students looked at a video, took notes, and did an experiment. They worked in pairs or individually as they moved around the stations. We should be complete with this by next week. Below are the links that I have used in class.

HOMEWORK: A math worksheet was sent home and should be brought to school everyday as we will use it in class. We started some of it in class and some students even though they complained that six sheets were to long, did not stop doing it during the 40 mins we had. So some students may only have one or two sheets left. If you would like to child to have extra practice please use this site:

https://www.commoncoresheets.com/

Click on multiplication or division for the required skill. There are a number of worksheets so choose the one that cater to Grade 3 or Year 4.

We will be moving on to measurement using inches and cm, mm and then patterns and functions where students look for patterns in numbers and shapes as well as using input tables with rules.

STUDENT CORNER:

There is a reward for students who use the blog to post their answer to this question or submit it in class. Of course get your parents’ permission before posting.

Question:  Can you find 5 division facts in this puzzle? One example has been done for you.

Have a blessed weekend.
