Week beginning February 24, 2019

We had a great time at ‘The Farmacy’ learning about animals and plants on the farm. Remember that it is almost the end of the month and Homework Bingo sheets are due in on Friday.

Literacy: We are continuing our Poetry mini unit and will be thinking about writing our own short poems. Spellings will be sent out on Monday.

Numeracy: We are continuing to compare data using tally charts and bar graphs. How many more and how many less.

Science: What Lives In The Forest? – Learning about plants in the forest.

Bible: continuing our learning about The Ten Commandments.

Social Studies: Important Buildings – we are learning about a range of buildings in Cayman and why they are important to us.

Week beginning February 18, 2019

Thank you so much for all our #SpoilTheTeacher treats! We were certainly spoiled.

Field Trip!: On Tuesday morning, Grade 1 will be going to ‘The Farmacy’ to learn about different plants and animals. Please apply sunscreen to your child before school. Children need to bring a hat, a water bottle and a small morning snack. We will return to school in time for normal lunch time. There is no cost for this trip.

Wednesday is SPORTS DAY! If you have not returned a permission form and the $4, please return these to the school office. We will be having silly games at school in the afternoon and races at Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the evening. Please see the Parent ROAR for information.

Literacy: This week we are focusing on Poetry and Nonsense Rhymes. Please check your email on Monday for the weekly Spellings.

Math: We are continuing our learning on data collection, picture graphs and tally charts.

Science: How Plants and Animals depend on each other and learning about plant and animal products.

Bible: An introduction to The Ten Commandments. Remember to learn your Bible Memory Verse.

Week beginning February 11, 2019

Well done everyone who completed and handed in the January Homework Bingo sheets! If you still have your sheet at home, please remember to bring it back to school. February sheets have been emailed out.

Literacy: During Reading Week we will be learning about a range of fairytales and end the week by writing our own fairytale! Remember that on Friday, children can dress as their favorite book character. Spellings will be sent out by email on Monday. 

Numeracy: Probability and Statistics:

1.Collect, organize, and represent various forms of data using tables, picture graphs and other objects.

2. Read and interpret data displayed in tables, picture graphs and other graphs using the words; more, less, fewer, greater than, less than and equal to.

Science: Living Together – ways plants and animals need one another.

Bible: Moses – Leaders must follow the rules and pay for their mistakes.

Memory Verse: “Look, the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

Week beginning February 4, 2019

Please read the Parent ROAR email, it contains lots of useful information about Reading week (February 11-15).

Literacy: Hopefully your child has discussed the book that we are looking at over the next couple of weeks. If not, it’s “The Day The Crayons Quit” by Drew Dewalt. We are continuing are opinion writing whilst using this book as a prompt.

Math: comparing numbers and understanding greater than (>), less than (<) and equal too (=) using the signs. Understand sums greater than 10. Place value (tens and ones).

Science: continuing our learning about plants and animals.

Bible: continuing the story of Moses and understand that leaders must follow rules.
