Home Learning – Week beginning April 27

Hello Parents,

We hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Moving into Week 6 of home learning now. Here are a few important reminders:

  1. Quizizz: please make sure that first names and surnames of your child are used.
  2. Each Quiz has a time lapse. When allocating deadlines, we have allowed for a grace period but once it has expired, we cannot reassign with new quiz codes. These Quizzes are an important form of our assessments. Please make sure that they are completed or communicate with us if you are unable to do them.

Zoom Meetings: Mrs Wade and Mrs Every are looking forward to seeing Grade 1 on their designated days. Please see the Literacy weekly learning grid for details. Log in information will be emailed separately.

1A – Tuesday at 10:00am

1B – Thursday at 10:00am

STAR Tests (RENLearn)

The whole school has been doing STAR Testing online and the school leadership would like us to continue.

Monday: Reading Test. Please do not help your child with the reading once they are logged in.

Thursday: Math Test (or before if you choose). Students may use counters and number charts. They may want to work answers out on a scrap piece of paper too, however, be aware that the questions are timed. We do not have access to change this. You will need to read the questions to your child but please don’t assist in the answering of them. Please also be aware that some topics have not been covered yet. For example, money and interpreting graphs. The tests will also gage general knowledge. Each child is on a different level based on how they have done in their previous STAR tests so please don’t be alarmed if their questions reflect Grade 2, 3, 4 levels.

Math: If you don’t have a printer, drawing and writing answers on paper is absolutely fine. Children will just refer to the activity sheets on the screen. The activities have been uploaded in landscape format with 2 to a page. If you wish to print one to a page in portrait, please feel free to edit the document.

Literacy: Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about Descriptive Writing. This week’s task is an introduction to the topic.

Technology: Ms Kirsten has offered to upload her lessons to Seesaw. Watch out for updates to your child’s account.

Music: There are several children who still need to complete their Music assignment from last week. Ms Janelle has asked that you use the time this week to complete the assignment.

Home Learning – Week beginning April 20

Welcome back to Home Learning! We hope that you have all had a relaxing Easter Break despite the circumstances. It was so lovely to see the Easter crafts the children have done.

Hopefully things will feel easier in this final quarter as everything is already set up and you are all familiar with Seesaw, Quizizz, Epic and Mathletics. As you would have read in Mr. Holtzhouse’s email, we hope to simplify the workload for you. So there will be NO PROJECTS this quarter!

As usual, we have uploaded the entire week’s plans for you to see in one go. Please aim to complete the Bible, Literacy and Math each day and fit in the other subjects when you can. We need to continue taking register, so please remember to upload work to Seesaw daily and stay in contact with us on the days you just can’t get to it all.

Please let us know if you don’t have a printer at home as we have some exciting activity sheets for the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, Ms Janelle is having some technical difficulties with the Quaver software. We will send the music lesson information as soon as possible. If you have any questions about Music, PE, Spanish or Technology, please email the Specialist teachers directly.

9 weeks to go! We can do this!!!

Home Learning – Week beginning April 6

Dear Parents and Grade 1,

Wow – we’ve almost made it to the Easter break! Well done everyone!

Please remember when completing a Quizizz assignment, to log in with your child’s first name and last name only. As funny as it is, it’s very difficult for us to work out who is who when random usernames are created. Thank you!

This week, Mrs E and I have found/created some fun activities for you to complete!

Step 1: Download the Easter Bingo Card. (There is no need to print, you can display on a screen and add a picture/shape to each box to show which activities you have completed.)

Step 2: Follow the instructions at the top of the card.

For PE, if you have uploaded your Catching & Throwing Test, Coach Kring has provided a really fun optional game to play as a family. If not, please use the PE time this week to complete your test and email/upload the video.

For Music, Ms Janelle would like you to complete the assessment attached. You can either print and write on the sheet, or send her an email with the answers.

For Technology, Ms Kirsten has planned a fun lesson using the mouse to copy and paste images. Please follow the directions on the plan and email directly to Ms Kirsten when finished.

Please click here to download some extra activities you may like to complete during the holidays. These are optional: Easter holiday activities

School policy states that we must still be collecting assessment material as this is the information that will form your child’s grade. Please make sure your child’s work is uploaded regularly to Seesaw. If you have having any problems, please email one of us.

We really do appreciate your support and if there is anything we can do to help, do let us know.

Happy Easter!

Mrs Wade & Mrs E
