Almost Concert Time

Its almost concert time!

Please can all children meet in the Music Suite at 18:00 on Monday evening. We will take all costumes already handed in to the Music Suite. Children should arrive in lightweight clothing, such as tshirt and leggings/shorts, to wear under their costumes.

In Literacy, we are continuing our story writing. Next week, we will be concentrating on story openings and describing characters.

We had a fun week doing different addition activities. Math homework is an addition sheet. The children are encouraged to use counters. Next week we will be moving onto subtraction.

Very excited to be starting our Animal Presentations from Monday! We will do a few every day and hopefully get through all 30 children by Friday. Our next topic in Science is Weather and Seasons. There are many fun songs on Youtube that the kids can enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfAB4BXSHOAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZjpI6fgYSYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmSKsyJ15yg

There is no Show and Tell this week, as we are doing Animal Presentations. Reminder: No toys for Show and Tell. We will inform you of what the weekly topic will be after all the animal presentations.

Handwriting Homework: Please write out this weeks memory verse.

Spellings: Will be sent home on Monday for a test on Friday.

We loved meeting with you all at the parent-teacher conferences. Thank you for all your positive feedback and encouragement.

Show and Tell

Hi parents,

There will be no Show and Tell this coming week as we will be practicing for the concert in that time. After that, we will let you know specific Show and Tell topics, such as, ‘Favorite Book’ or ‘Family Photograph’. No more toys to school please.

Week beginning November 25th, 2019

Dear Parents,

Next week is Thanksgiving Week! We all have so much to thank the Lord for.

Please remember that Thursday, the 28th is a half day. Children can be picked up from 11:40am by the classroom. Whatever your plans, we hope that you will all have a very special thanksgiving together.

In Math, we continue in Addition. Homework will focus on Whole-Part-Part addition. Please be sure to have it completed by Friday.

As you know, we are really enjoying learning about Animals in Science. Letters were sent home in Blue Folders on Monday, the 18th explaining the Presentations we will be doing from the 2nd of December. Please continue to prepare for those. The children are very excited!

In Literacy, we are continuing are fictional narrative writing. The children have been learning about different characters and now we will be using adjectives to describe them.

Reading books – please remember to record your daily reading on the ‘Reading Log’. Books will be changed once a week (usually Wednesday/Thursday). However, if there is no record of the book having been read, then it may be sent home again.

Spellings & Handwriting – spellings will be sent home as usual on Monday. For handwriting this week, we are asking the children to write out their Bible verse neatly. This will also help them to memorize it.

Library books – most of the children are doing a fabulous job of reading their library books and remembering the bring them back on the correct day (1A = Wednesday & 1B = Tuesday). Please remember to ask your child questions about the book to ensure they have fully understood it. Once the books have been read, children then take a short comprehension test on the computer. The more questions they get right, the more points they earn to spend in the AR Point Store with Ms Galvao once a quarter.

Christmas Production – The children are working incredibly hard on learning their lines and the songs for our Christmas show, “The Not Now Nativity!”. Show Night will be on Monday December 2nd. We hope to see you all there!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Science Show & Tell (Animal Presentation)

Hi parents,
Being a mom of a grade 1 student myself, I know that when you get a letter informing you of a project or presentation, you want to run a mile! I just want to reassure you, that the Animal Presentation is a very simple ‘show and tell’ way for us to determine whether or not the children have understood Animal Needs, Animal Characteristics and Functions and also how we can Classify Animals (which we are doing this week). All they need is a picture of an animal and to be able to tell us the required information about it. It really is a fun Show and Tell. Please allow this is be a fun experience for them. They have been enjoying it so much in class.
Mrs E.

Hi Parents,

We have sent the children’s files home. We hope that you will enjoy looking through their hard work and seeing their progress. PLEASE RETURN ON MONDAY with all the sheets still in it!!!

Thank you for responding so quickly in setting up for Parent- Teacher Conferences. We are so looking forward to chatting with you.

Half Day on Thursday. Please collect your children between 11:40- 12:00 from the classroom. There is no School on Friday 22nd due to conferences.

Christmas Play!: Our Christmas Nativity is the “Not Now! Nativity”. Please remember to help your child learn their lines over the weekend as we are starting our practises on Monday morning! Costumes should be brought to school by November 22nd. Please ensure everything is named as we have a lot of similar clothing options for the characters.

The kids did a great job learning about Magnitude this week! Next week, we will be moving onto Equality. (What does the equal sign mean?) I will be sending home some related homework. Please remember that although you get it on Friday, I will only be introducing it on Monday. Please hand it in by Thursday of the following week.

In Science we are looking at how we can classify animals and the children will be taking part in a ‘sorting the animals’ activity.

In Literacy, we will be looking at retelling stories and sequencing them correctly.

Handwriting: please assist your child in writing out their memory verse for this week on the blank handwriting page provided on Monday.

Spellings: new spellings will be sent home on Monday. Due to the conferences, the spelling test will be on Thursday next week.

 Have a wonderful weekend!

Week 10: November 11-15, 2019

It’s time for a long weekend! We hope that you will all have a fun and restful weekend.

Our Christmas play, “The Not Now Nativity” is on December 2nd. Children have been given their parts and their lines to learn. Please help your child to practise as much as possible over the next couple of weeks. Costumes are due to school by November 22nd so that we can use them for a dress rehearsal at school. If you have any queries, please email us.

Just a couple reminders:

Please refrain from sending sweets and chocolate to school for snack or lunch. The children need healthy snacks to help them concentrate in class. We occasionally hand out small treats at the end of the day as a reward for winning team etc.

Handwriting homework will be: Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy. Please remember to write a sentence on the last line using words containing these letters.

Literacy: We are continuing our fictional narrative and story telling unit. We will be learning about characters, plots, settings and how to write a story plan ourselves. Spellings will be sent home on Tuesday (due to the long weekend). There will be a test on Friday as usual.

In Math, we will be moving onto a new topic: Magnitude. However, the homework will be subtraction practice.

In science, we continue learning about Animals and their unique characteristics which help them to survive and catch prey. Please could you assist your child in choosing an animal (land, sea or air) and find information to send to school (a book or internet printing). We will use the information to write down their animals characteristics and functions. For example:

  1. A crocodile has sharp teeth for chewing meat,
  2. A stream lined body and tail for swimming fast,
  3. A tough thick, skin for protection,
  4. It has webbed hands and feet for swimming fast,
  5. A large mouth and throat to swallow prey whole etc.  We need 5 characteristics please.

This is not a project. It is classwork.

Week ending November 8th

We are off to a fun start! Reading week has been full of wonderful stories from around the world! Next week, we will be assessing the children’s understanding of nouns, verbs and adjectives and then we are starting our Fictional Narrative writing (Traditional/Fairy Tales). Handwriting homework this week is: b, h, k.  Please remember to make up your own sentence on the last line with words containing these letters. Spellings will be sent home on Monday.

In Math, we will be moving onto a new topic on Monday: Ordinal Numbers. There are wonderful songs on Youtube such as:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ordinal+numbers+song+grade+1  to reinforce the concept. The homework sheet needs to be completed by Friday the 8th please. If you have a toy car or two, please could you send it to school for our little races. This will be a fun way to learn Ordinal Number.

In Science we continue with Animals – more specifically, physical characteristics that perform specific functions.

Dress Down Day this coming Friday. Please send in $1.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Every & Mrs Wade
