Week ending November 1st

Welcome Back!

We hope that you all had a lovely midterm break and are now ready for the next few weeks before Christmas.

In Math this week, we will be revising everything we have done so far:

  • Counting 1-110 (starting at any given number)
  • Writing numerals 0-110
  • Counting backwards from 30
  • Counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
  • Grouping into Tens and Ones
  • Comparing numbers by using the words greater than/ less than and equal to
  • Ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least

We will be working in a little revision booklet which I will send home for you to see where your child will need extra practice at home. I will be giving the children a class test on Thursday.

In Science we will be starting a new unit on Animals. Just as we learnt about what plants need to grow and survive, we will now look at what animals need to grow and survive.

It’s Reading Week!!! This year’s theme is “Around The World”. All week, we will be reading lots of lovely stories from different countries and learning how to separate them into beginning, middle and ending as well as looking at differenent types of characters and settings.

Monday – China (The Seven Sisters)

Tuesday – India (Becka and the Big Bubble go to India)

Wednesday – England (various Julia Donaldson books)

Thursday – Mexico (Viva Frida)

Friday – Cayman Islands (Georgie and the Stingray City / Pedro and the Treasure Map)

On Friday, the whole school (teachers included!) will be dressing up as their favorite book character. Remember to bring in a copy of the book that your character is from. There will be a whole school parade in the morning to show off our lovely outfits. There will be a spelling test as usual on Friday. Please check your child’s blue folder for their words to learn.

Remember that this Friday is also Fruity Friday. Please send in $1 for your child to buy some tasty healthy snacks.

Please remember handwriting and spelling in the blue folders.

Have a great week!

Week ending October 11th

Hi there parents,

Almost mid-term break!

Remember that school closes on Thursday, October 17th at 12h30 and no aftercare. Pick-up from 11h40. Children will have lunch at the Dorms. No school on Friday.

In Math we have been ordering numbers from least to greatest and next week we will be ordering from greatest to least. I would like all the kids to do extra practice in Mathletics during this coming week.

I know you are all busy with Science/ Social Studies projects. Here is a song that your children have been enjoying in Science: The Plant Song  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql6OL7_qFgU

Please return those Science Project Letters as we will be marking on the attached rubric.

New Reading Books need to be returned by Wednesday each week.

There will be no spelling test next week. Instead, we will be revising the Grade 1 High Frequency/Sight Words in class.

Have a super weekend!
