Week beginning April 1, 2019

Reminders:

School Uniform: We have noticed that not all students are adhering to the full school uniform policy. Please check that your child is wearing the correct clothing at all times. Please refer to the school uniform policy for further details.

Please hand in 1 signed copy of your child’s mid-term report. You may keep the other copy at home for your records.

March bingo homework sheets are due in. Don’t forget the Social Studies sheet too. This must be returned. April bingo sheets will be sent out on Monday.

Science Fair – Friday April 12 – This is a mandatory whole-school event. All children are expected to take part. Please see email sent out last week. This is also ‘Dress Like A Scientist Day’.

Literacy: We are continuing our work on stories and learning about describing settings. This week, we will focus on writing an effective setting. Please remember to practise weekly spellings for a test on Friday.

Numeracy: Make a 10 to add or subtract. For example, 8 + 5 is the same as 8 + 2 = 10 + 3 or 14 – 6 is the same as 14 – 4 = 10 – 2 = 8.

Science: Matter continues. Experiments involving solids, liquids and gases.

Bible: Continuing the story of Gideon.

Social Studies: Continuing our learning about plants in Cayman.

Week beginning March 25, 2019

Please remember to wear correct school uniform at all times.

Literacy: We will be continuing our work on describing characters and moving on to describing settings from a range of traditional tales. Please remember to practise your spelling words that were sent home via email previously.

Numeracy: This week we are continuing to learn about doubles and doubles plus 1 facts.

Science: This week we are investigating matter – this week we are focusing on which objects can float or sink and what do we know about gases. Why not investigate this yourself at home this weekend?

Bible: We will be learning about the story of Gideon.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about plants that can be found in the Cayman Islands. This week, we will be looking at helpful (medicinal) and harmful (poisonous) plants.

Art: This month, we are learning about Realism and focusing on the artist Wayne Thiebeau.

Week beginning March 18, 2019

Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform for each school day. Hair accessories should be navy, black or white unless it is a Dress Down Day.

On Monday, there will be a Numeracy and a Science assessment. For Numeracy, the focus is on Data Collection, Tally Marks, Picture Graphs and Bar Graphs. For Science, the focus is on ‘How Plants and Animals Need Each Other’. This assessment is a review for the end of our unit of work.

Reminder: Thursday March 21 is Crazy Sock Day for Down Syndrome Awareness. Please read the Parent ROAR for more information.

Literacy: We have been comparing different traditional tales and this week we are going to focus on characters and describing them with exciting adjectives. Please remember to check your email for the half-termly spelling words that were sent home last week.

Numeracy: This week we are learning to recognize doubles and doubles plus 1 facts.

Science: This week we are investigating matter – solid, liquid and gas.

Bible: The story of Joshua and Caleb with a focus on trusting and obeying God.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about plants that can be found in Cayman.

Week beginning March 11, 2019

We hope you have a fantastic mid-term break and are looking forward to seeing you all again back at school!

Literacy:  This term we are focusing our writing on how to write a story. This week, we are looking at a range of fairy tales and traditional tales and discussing the similarities and differences. Spellings will be sent out on March 11.

Numeracy: Data & Statistics continued. We will be measuring and comparing lengths and heights.

Science: Deserts – What Lives in a Desert?

Bible: We will be reviewing The Ten Commandments.

Social Studies: We will be looking at plants and trees that can be found in the Cayman Islands.
