Week 5: September 30- October 4

Hi again parents,
We trust that you have had a good week.

PHOTO DAY!!!

Wednesday October 2nd – Class 1A

Thursday October 3rd – Class 1B – Please come to school in your school uniform and bring your PE kit and shoes in your bag.

In Math, we have been working in the topic of Tens and Ones. I would like to consolidate this topic more next week. The Homework that I am sending home is further practice in this topic. Please also continue making time for your children to do Mathletics activities. Its a fun way to practice counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s as well as ordering numbers. I am seeing some good results showing up in there.

In Science, we have continued to learn about plants, their parts and the specific functions of each of the parts. In week 5, we move into Classifying plants i.e. edible/ non-edible. Please encourage your children to observe different plants around them- allow them to tell you about the different parts they can identify.

In Literacy we are continuing our Personal Narrative writing and learning about nouns and pronouns. Please sign your child’s spelling test and return to school. New spelling words and handwriting homework will be sent home on Monday. We will soon be conducting Reading assessments in class with the class teacher. This is a one-to-one short assessment of your child’s reading ability and their comprehension. Shortly after, your child will receive a weekly reading book and reading log to support their reading journey. More information to follow.

In Social Studies, we are learning about compass directions and following routes. Have a go at home practising which way in North, East, South and West.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In Math, we will be warming up with Counting and Number Ordering. We will then move onto Tens and Ones. Fridays have now been allocated to Computation: Addition and Subtraction.  We have sent home some extra practice. Please return by Friday the 27th.

Continue to read Library Books. Whenever your child has read their Library book, they can take a short online comprehension test in the classroom. The more questions they answer correctly, the more points they receive. At several times throughout the year, Mrs Galvao (our Librarian) has a ‘shop’ where the children can exchange their reading points for prizes.

Have a lovely weekend!
