The Functions of a Plant Stem

Yesterday during our science class, we did an experiment to see if we could actually observe the functions of the plant stem using red and blue food coloring in water. We left our plant experiments overnight and this morning we were happy and every excited to find that they had worked! Grade 4 was able to observe that the plant stem was indeed responsible for carrying water and nutrients to other parts of the plant. In order to help your child review and remember what we discussed in science this week, here are some key questions that you can ask him/her:1. What does the word Vascular mean? (Answer: having tubes)2. What are the functions of a plant stem? (Answer: They connect the roots and the leaves. They carry water and food to the other parts of the plant.)3. How did the experiement help to prove what the functions of the plant stem are?

Moving Classrooms

Dear Parents,Please note that on Friday, we moved our classroom next door to the Spanish/Music Room (the first door on the right). This room is a bit more spacious and makes it a little easier for all of us to maneuver around the classroom. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email. Many thanks for your continued support.Blessings.Ms. Suckoo

Collage Time!

In Art class today, we worked on creating collages. The class was shown a picture and they then had to mimic it as best as they could using only items found outside and inside the classroom. They were encouraged to be creative and had the option to either work individually or in groups of 2.

Rounding!

Dear Parents,Yesterday we focused on rounding and estimating whole numbers. I noticed that a few students had a little trouble deciding which numbers should be rounded, especially when dealing with place values in the thousands and higher. I found this short tutorial (see below) that wil help to reinforce what we worked on. Please review this with your child.Thanks!Blessings.Ms. Suckoohttp://www.schooltrainer.com/study-material/devlopmental-maths-2-study-material/rounding-whole-numbers-2.html
