Grade 4 Christmas Party

merry-christmas4Dear Parents,

This year Grade 4 will be having our Christmas party on December 20th. A few children have volunteered to bring a few treats and snacks on this day. Please check your child’s agenda for what they will be bringing.

Each child will also need to bring a mug/coffee cup for the party. We will be watching The Polar Express while sipping on some yummy, hot chocolate. If you would like to donate some hot chocolate or marshmallows, please see me.

Instead of doing a simple Secret Santa, we will be doing something a little different. There are many children who will be receiving nothing for Christmas this year and I thought it would be nice to give to some of the children in the Nadine Andreas Foster Home

I am really trying to instill in the students this holiday season the importance of giving, even when you get nothing in return. The foster kids really need clothes, so they are asking for gift certificates to J-Micheals, Atlantic Kids or Reflections.

We’re also doing a Secret Santa during our class party, so I’m asking the students to each bring in a new, small, gift wrapped book for their Secret Santa. (Please ensure that both books are new and unused.) Each student will choose the name of a classmate to give to. We drew names already, so please ask your child which of their classmates they need to buy a gift for. I know things get tight this time of year so the limit for each book will be between $7.00 and $10 each.

I will deliver the gifts to the Nadine Andreas Foster Home before Christmas. Thank you so much for all your help and hard work. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas,

Mrs. Suckoo

The World Loses a Hero

I know I am quite tardy with this post, but I thought it was too important of a post to pass up.

On December 5, 2013, the world lost an extraordinary human being – Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela – Madiba. Last week Friday, we discussed the many accomplishments and contributions of Madiba and watched a short, YouTube video on his life.

I found this article on http://edition.cnn.com/2013/12/05/world/africa/nelson-mandela/ and thought it fitting to share:

Freedom fighter, prisoner, moral compass and South Africa’s symbol of the struggle against racial oppression.

That was Nelson Mandela, who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead his country out of decades of apartheid.

He died Thursday night at age 95.

His message of reconciliation, not vengeance, inspired the world after he negotiated a peaceful end to segregation and urged forgiveness for the white government that imprisoned him.

“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison,” Mandela said after he was freed in 1990.

“Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father,” South African President Jacob Zuma said. “What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human. We saw in him what we seek in ourselves.”

His U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, echoed the same sentiment.

“We’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this Earth,” Obama said. “He no longer belongs to us — he belongs to the ages.”

Mandela became the nation’s conscience as it healed from the scars of apartheid.

“I would like to be remembered not as anyone unique or special, but as part of a great team in this country that has struggled for many years, for decades and even centuries,” he said. “The greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall.” Nelson Mandela

Christmas Chapel

faithful_clipart

December 11, 2013

Dear Parents,

First Baptist Christian School is having a special chapel on Monday, December 16th from
8:20 – 9:30am where each class will do a Christmas performance. I thought it would be nice for Grade 4 to do a focus on Cayman Christmas traditions.

Could you please allow your child to come dress as an old Caymanian for our Monday morning chapel (they can bring a change of clothing for afterwards). We also want to showcase the Cayman kitchen bands, so if you have any buckets, graters, big wooden or metal spoons, or any other musical ‘kitchen’ instrument that we could use for our presentation, I would greatly appreciate it. Please email or pop over to see me to let me know what ‘instrument’ your child will be able to bring.

Thank you so much for your continued support! We are looking forward to a very entertaining chapel. Hope to see you there!

Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Suckoo

Hotdog for Christmas

Hi there! I’m so sorry for taking so long to post these photos! This was our persuasive writing that we did for Thanksgiving. Each student had to try and persuade me not to eat any turkey dinner for Thanksgiving! Although they all came up with some marvelous points as to why I should skip that turkey dinner, I have to admit that I most certainly enjoyed some yummy turkey all throughout the week and into the weekend! 🙂 Shhhh… Gobble-gobble!
