READING WEEK STARTS TODAY!

This week, we’ll be Reading Around the World! We’ll be focusing on books from a different country/continent each day. Remember, Friday is also Book Character Dress-Up Day.

Number the Stars:  We will be starting a new class novel this week; Number the Stars. Here’s a quick summary of the utter greatness that you can expect from this book:

Be sure to ask you child/children what they think of the book, and to summarize  what we’ve read of the book each day.

Some of the learning objectives (or WALT as we refer to them in Grade 4; We Are Learning To) that we will cover while reading are:

• • Describe the characters’ traits, feelings, and motivations in Number the Stars.
  • Refer to the text for evidence to support answers.
  • Form an opinion about a character’s trait based on the character’s actions, feelings and motivation.
  • Explain how the characters’ actions contribute to the sequence of events.
  • Engage in discussions sharing their ideas and listening to others.
  • Use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words or phrases in Number the Stars.
  • Distinguish literal and non-literal language and determine its meaning.
    
  • Gain information about the past.
  • Build upon their background knowledge of World War II.
  • Explore themes of friendship and bravery during the times that scare us the most.

English: – Capitalize the first word of a quotation. Use commas and end marks correctly in quotations.

– Capitalize the first, last, and important words in a title.

– Underline a title to indicate indicate italics.

– Unit 5 Check-Up

Vocabulary: – Study and prepare for our Spelling Test on Friday.

Math: – Chapter Test Review

– Chapter 8 Test, Tuesday, March 14

– Represent and interpret data in a line plot.

– Interpret a bar graph.

Science: – Describe our solar system.

– Identify the planets and other objects in our solar system.

Social Studies: – List ways that we can prevent something like the Holocaust from ever happening again.

Bible: – Study Bible verse for Friday. Parents, please encourage your child to study their Bible verse every week. These do impact their Bible grades.

– Examine Scripture about the Holy Spirit and complete exercises on the basis of what they have read.

– Examine ways that God has created them in His image.

We will be meeting with Ava Schloss, the best friend and step-sister of Anne Frank, tomorrow. This is the perfect introduction to Number the Stars. If you haven’t done so yet, please send in the permission form for tomorrow’s field trip.
English: – Identify direct quotations in sentences. Use quotation marks before and after a direct quotation.

– Capitalize the first word of a quotation.

Spelling: – Study and prepare for our Spelling Test on Friday.

Math: – Solve division problems that result in three digit quotients.

– Solve division problems that result in quotients that have zeros.

– Divide four-digit dividends by a one-digit number.

– Chapter Test Review (in preparation for our Chapter Test next week)

Science: – Review learned objectives on how Earth and Its Moon moves.

Social Studies: –Identify the causes and effects of the Holocaust.

Bible: – Study Bible verse for Friday. Parents, please encourage your child to study their Bible verse every week. These do impact their Bible grades.
