Pro-Hero Week – Day 2
We had another great day yesterday, learning about what we can do to make a positive difference in lives of others. We also learned that although it may be easy for nasty and unkind words to come out of our mouths, it’s definitely not easy to take them back. In fact, unkind words usually leave a scar on someone, and although that scar may not be visible, it still really hurts.
Hopefully you will remember that on Monday, we filled our tri-fold with very mean words. Yesterday, we had to try our best to erase all of those words and replace them with kind and uplifting words. As hard as we tried, we were not able to completely get rid of our rude words. This very much relates to real life. Many times we say sorry, and yes, we must say sorry, but unfortunately, our mean words are remembered long after. This is why Thinking Before Speaking is so important.
To fit with this concept, I also created 2 paper dolls (Timmy Failure and Karina-Karina – two characters from the Timmy Failure series). We passed these dolls around the classroom, making hard folds and bends in them. These poor dolls started off smooth and clean, and ended up being crushed and misshaped. We then tried to smooth out the wrinkles, but couldn’t straighten Timmy and Karina back out to look like new. As a way of trying though, we each took a turn saying nice things to them. Hopefully, now we all have a better understanding on the power of words and just how much words can hurt.
Pro-Hero Week – Day 1
Pro-Hero Week is off to a great start! Yesterday we learned what it means to be a hero, what it means to be a powerful bystander and how to tell if you are being bullied.
For our activity, we divided ourselves into two groups, had to squeeze out an entire tube of toothpaste, and then try to get all of the toothpaste back into the tube again! Be sure to ask your child what the significance of this activity was and if any group was successful or not.
After this, we got a tri-fold board and wrote some ‘not so nice’ words on it…words that would hurt our feelings if someone said them to us. Please be sure to check back to our blog to see what we do with these words today!
Here is a link of a video that we watched:

Science Fair
Grade 4 worked extremely hard on their science fair projects. Both groups created impressive presentations and really enjoyed their research.
I also want to say a big congratulations to the group that presented Coral Reef Colors! They won the prize for top group for grade 4. Well done. It was a very close competition and I know the judges had a difficult time deciding who should win.
