As we learn how to write proper instructions, we decided to start off by following some instructions…yummy instructions, that is.

Allow your child to instruct you on how deviled eggs as well. 🙂

Objectives and Homework for May 11-15, 2015

Please note that I will be on leave on Thursday and Friday, this week, having my wisdom tooth removed (yes, ouch!). Pray for me! lol

English: – Read a published model of instructions.

– Follow instructions on how to make Deviled Eggs.

– Write a detailed instruction on how to make Deviled Eggs.

The One and Only Ivan: We are thoroughly enjoying The One and Only Ivan. Be sure to ask you child what chapters we’ve covered and discussed each week. We are reading pages 161 – 220 and working on our Ivan booklet this week.

Some of the learning objectives (or WALT as we refer to them in Grade 4; We Are Learning To) and questions that we will cover while reading are:

  • Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions). Compare and contrast the points of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference between first- and third-person narrations.
  • How does point of view contribute to the authenticity of a story? Write an explanatory text telling how the author uses point of view in the book and how you as the reader were impacted.
  • How do authors develop characterization, and how does characterization enhance the reader’s understanding of the character’s personality?
  • How does the author use figurative language through the character’s eon?

Spelling: – Please study for our weekly spelling test on Friday.

Math: – Divide 4-digit dividends by a 1-digit quotients.

– Study Guide and Review to prepare for Chapter 8 test Wednesday, 20th May.

Science: – Field trip to the Dr. William Hrudey Observatory at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) on Monday, May 11.

– STUDY for Science Solar System test on May 13

Bible: – Study Bible verse for Friday. Parents, please encourage your child to study their Bible verse every week. These do impact their Bible grades.

– Compare and contrast the Old and New Testament. Discuss Solomon’s Temple.

– Determine which fruit of the spirit is demonstrated in various scenarios.

– Examine the work of the Holy Spirit within believers.
