READING

We’ve finished A Boy Called Bat, and we’ve been busy delving deeper in concepts surrounding the book. You should have seen your student working on an Autism poster. This was due today, so please have a chat to ensure that your child handed his/hers in.

Also, we started our final, in-class project last week, and are finalizing it this week. Here are the instructions that they received.

Design challenge time! You and your group have 3 days, 30 minutes per day, to design and build a project related to the book, A Boy Called Bat. It can be anything at all, so long as you can build it with materials available to you in class and it shows a clear connection to the story. Once completed, your masterpiece will go into the Design Museum. What? Your school doesn’t have a Design Museum? Well, you’ll just have to create on then, won’t you? All of your other projects can go into the museum as well. Then invite other classes to take a field trip to your museum.

I’ve been so impressed with every concept and their work ethic. I can’t wait to share the final details with you!

SHHHHHH….. surprise for the students!

In the month of November, Grade 4 has been focusing their devotions on thankfulness. Each day they write something they are thankful that corresponds to the number (Day 8, eight things they are thankful for and why; written or drawn!). For the 30th day, Grade 4 teachers are asking YOU to write 30 things you are thankful for ABOUT YOUR CHILD! They have been coming up with beautiful reminders, like how we have food each day, electricity, a desk to write on and even being able to use electronics! (yes, even an iPad is something we can be thankful for, ha!) We would love for them to be surprised the last day FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30 to not write anything but read what their parents have written to them. This can be an email and I’ll print out or hand written; even family members can write a few for you, more the merrier. So, please try and keep it a secret and when you get a chance send us an email or you can leave notes in the office, where they can put into our boxes. Thank you for your participation and lets continue having a thankful heart and mind throughout the month and daily!

Science Investigation

Can seeds grow without soil?

In science we are learning about life cycles. To begin this study we are using our information about plants, thinking about they need to grow and how photosynthesis plays a part in a plants life. Here are some photos of us beginning this investigation. We will complete it this week as we observe our seeds and write a conclusion based on our initial predictions and after observations.

We are continuing to use our skills in recording, making a chart of our observations and writing conclusions.

Our material are water, a sponge, tub, seeds
We are using the sponge as a base and keeping it moist with a cm of water in the tub.
