Water, water, watercolour!

Here is out latest art adventure. Since we were learning all about plants last week, I decided to link our art lesson to our science lesson. Every student had to create a plant collage made out of a watercolour creation that they had painted previously. Check out how beautiful these turned out.

Here’s what you missed…

Just in case you were unable to make it to our Open House last night, I thought I’d share a few pictures of what you would have seen if you were here! If you didn’t get a chance to visit last night, please remember that if you have any questions or concerns, you can email me anytime or we can work out a time to meet. 🙂 Have a great 1st week of October! (Cooler weather is almost here! :D)

We watched a cute little story on youtube entitled: The Dat I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish. You can watch it at home as well by clicking on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQl-q7DYP24. So, after that, we wrote a new journal entry entitled: "I would never trade my dad, but I would trade my..." We had some fun with this one. And just in case you were wondering, for journal entries, I do not correct any spelling mistakes, as I want each student to develop a love for just writing and expressing themselves through writing.
Parents had to use the clues to figure out their child/children.

Vertebrate/Invertebrate Project

Grade 4 Science Research Project

1 Vertebrate and 1 Invertebrate

Find out details about a vertebrate and invertebrate of your choice:

·         Habitats

·         Diets

·         How it cares for its own

·         Size, weight & lifespan

·         Defenses against enemy

·         Unique behaviors

·         Other interesting facts

Create a ‘Double Bubble’ comparing and contrasting these very different animals.  Find out at least 3 things that are similar and 3 things that are different.  Please use as much science vocabulary as you can to describe your animals.  REMEMBER:  Use deeper level thinking.

Example:

In addition to writing the names of the animals, you’ll also be drawing a detailed picture with their habitats as part of the ‘double bubble’ background. When your scientific art piece is complete, you will need to type a 3-paragraph research paper on your findings.  Your paragraphs should include:1st paragraph – What two animals did you select?2nd paragraph – How are your animals the same and different?3rd paragraph – What have you learned from this project?

This project is due Friday, October 19, 2012. Have fun, get creative and learn!

Sincerely,

Ms. Suckoo
