Class Novel – We’re starting a new class novel this week; Because of Winn Dixie. Here’s a quick summary of the ‘awesomeness’ that you can expect from this book. 🙂
A classic tale by Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo, America’s beloved storyteller. One summer’s day, ten-year-old India Opal Buloni goes down to the local supermarket for some groceries – and comes home with a dog. But Winn-Dixie is no ordinary dog. It’s because of Winn-Dixie that Opal begins to make friends. And it’s because of Winn-Dixie that she finally dares to ask her father about her mother, who left when Opal was three. In fact, as Opal admits, just about everything that happens that summer is because of Winn-Dixie. Featuring a new cover illustration by E. B. Lewis and an excerpt of Kate DiCamillo’s newest novel, Raymie Nightingale.
We’ll be covering about 5 chapters per week and completing a quiz each Friday.
English: Choose present tense verbs for singular and plural subjects.
– Form present tense of verbs.
– Form past tense verbs.
Spelling: – Study for Spelling Test this Friday. These spelling words will be taken from our class novel; Because of Winn Dixie.
Math: Multiply multiples of 10, 100, and 1000 using basic facts and patterns.
– Estimate products by rounding.
– Decide if an answer to a problem is reasonable.
Science: – Study Guide and Review
– Study for Chapter 9 Science Test this Thursday.
Social Studies: – Discover the different cultures that help to influence us.
– Discuss the Arawaks and Caribs.
Bible: – Study Bible verse for Friday. Parents, please encourage your child to study their Bible verse every week. These do impact their Bible grades.
– Demonstrate an understanding of the word infinite and define omniscient.
– Conclude that God’s knowledge is eternal.
