Cells, Cells EVERYWHERE!

Today we were learning all about plant and animal cells. We discussed the functions of different parts of cells and drew and labeled them in our science composition books. We had a great discussion and had fun learning! Remember to ask your child/children about the lesson!

Make a Model Cell

Today we enjoyed our first science lesson! We made a model cell using jello, raisins, skittles and malt balls! Students were asked to compare the animal and plant cells and list the differences and then, using the similarities, we made our cell model. Models can be used to represent things that we can’t examine in person. With a model, we can look at dangerous things or small things and draw conclusions about them (taken from HSP Science). This made for a fun and very yummy science lesson. Ask your child/children what they learned today and what the main differences between a plant and animal cell are.

Fun Homework

Dear Parents,Each student was asked to bring in 3 items that best describes them. These items can be anything from pictures of their favourite books, games or food, to old journals and pictures. Once we have collected items from everyone, we will then place them into our Grade 4 Time Capsule, where they will remain until the end of Grade 4. It’s always fun to open these at the end of the school year to see how our likes and favourites have changed or even stayed the same. Thanks for your help!Sincerely,Ms. Suckoo

Ice Breaker Scavenger Hunt

As you can see, we had a very busy but fun filled day. 🙂 In order to get everyone mingling again, everyone was given a Scavenger Hunt Student Search form. Students then had to find classmates that fit the description in each box. This served as an ice breaker and got the kids talking and interacting quickly.

Child Glyphs

I got this idea from Welcome to Room 28, where she shared her Child Glyphs. I was so excited that I had our kids do the same! Each student draws a face and then fills out the information on the t-shirt. What the kids did over the summer is written on an index card and attached to the shorts.(Come back soon to see our final glyphs! 🙂)

Individuals within a Group

Today we did a little experiment using Water Jelly Marbles! I decided to do this experiment to emphasize that although all of us are individuals and each have our own strengths; together, as a group, as the Grade 4 family, we can accomplish great things. We spoke about what it meant to be a family, to work together and respect each other. We also discussed how important it was to keep trying our best, working hard and never giving up. Just as the Water Jelly Marbles grew when they were added to water, all of us in Grade 4 will continue to grow and mature with God’s help and guidance.(Stay tuned for our follow up pictures to see how big our Water Jelly Marbles have grown.)

Welcome to Grade 4!

Dear Parents,

WOW! Can you believe we have just started another school year already? This is going to be such an exciting year and I cannot wait to get started! My name is Tessa Suckoo and I am your child’s fourth grade teacher for this year. I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you more about myself because I strongly believe that it is essential for parents to know as much about their child’s teacher as possible!

I attended the Art Institute, Miami International University of Art and Design where I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Right after graduation, I worked as a photographer/graphic designer at Picture This, Grand Cayman. The next year, I decided to focus more on graphic design at mc2 Design Group. However, while on a job at a local primary school, I was asked to take some pictures inside the classroom and from that moment, I was convinced that I was meant to become a teacher. I immediately enrolled at the University College of the Cayman Islands, where I graduated with my Post Graduate Diploma in Education.

This will be my fourth year teaching at First Baptist Christian School, and my second year teaching grade 4! I absolutely love teaching and could not imagine myself doing anything else! It is truly my passion! I cannot wait to start another exciting and successful year! If you have any questions or ever need to contact me, please do not hesitate to email me at tsuckoo@fbcs.edu.ky. Thank you for all that you do for your child! I know that we will have an outstanding year together!

God Bless,

Ms. Suckoo
